THINGS YOU SHOULD NOT DO WHEN YOU ARE DISAPPOINTED

1. Don't make a permanent decision in a temporary emotion.
Don't quit church, quit marriage, quit job while you are hurting. Esau sold his birthright because he was hungry for one moment. Genesis 25.

2. Don't compare your chapter 2 with someone's chapter 20.
You see them on Facebook smiling, but you don't know their night tears. 2 Cor 10:12

3. Don't isolate — the devil visits lonely people.
Elijah was most depressed when he was alone under a tree. 1 Kings 19:4. Stay in cell group.

4. Don't stop speaking God's Word.
Even when you don't feel it, speak it. Life and death is in your tongue. Proverbs 18:21

EXTRA POINT: WHAT TO DO WITH YOUR WAITING SEASON
God uses disappointment to teach us how to wait.

with Worship, not worry. Paul and Silas worshipped in jail at midnight — Acts 16:25-26 — and chains broke.

by Serving. David served Saul even while waiting for his throne. If you are waiting for a job, serve in church.

DAY 4

STEPS TO OVERCOME DISAPPOINTMENT

Step 1: Pour out your heart to God — Be HONEST.
Don't pretend you are okay. David in Psalms said, 'How long, O Lord? Will you forget me forever?' God wants honest prayers, not perfect prayers. Go to your closet and tell Him, "Lord, I'm hurt." Psalm 62:8

Step 2: Remember God's CHARACTER, not just your circumstance.
When you can't trace His hand, trust His heart. He is still good. He is still Jehovah Jireh, your provider. Lamentations 3:22-23 says His mercies are new every morning. Yesterday's disappointment doesn't cancel today's mercy.

Step 3: Refrain your thinking — Ask the right question.
Instead of asking "Why me, God?" Ask "What are You teaching me, God?" and "What are You protecting me from?"
Sometimes God closes a door because it was not the right door. Acts 16:6 — Paul wanted to go to Asia, but the Holy Spirit said NO, because God had a better door in Macedonia.

Step 4: Surround yourself with Godly community.
Don't isolate. The devil wants you alone when you are disappointed. Galatians 6:2 says, 'Carry each other's burdens.' Talk to your pastor, your cell group leader, your spiritual mother. Let the church pray for you.

Step 5: Get up and take the NEXT small step of faith.
Don't quit. Galatians 6:9 — 'Let us not grow weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.'
Worship again. Pray again. Apply again. Trust again. Your harvest is coming at the proper time — God's time, not your time.

DAY 3

HOW SHOULD WE BELIEVERS IN CHRIST HANDLE THE DISAPPOINTMENT.

1. EVALUATE YOUR EXPECTATIONS.
When I’m honest with myself, I often discover I feel disappointed because I’ve set unrealistic expectations.

Do I assume I’ll do everything perfectly the first time? Or expect others to meet all my emotional needs? Do I expect my children never to disobey, act childishly, or fail to behave the way I want them to? Do I assume the Christian life will be free from hardship.

2. BRING YOUR DISAPPOINTMENT TO GOD.
During some of the darkest times of my life, when I was disappointed with myself, others, or God, I found it hard to pray. Instead of running toward God, I ran away from Him.

When I bring my disappointments to God, I position myself to receive His comfort. Sharing my hurts in prayer, then searching God’s Word for His response opens communication between me and the One who knows my heart better than I do. King David models this for us throughout the psalms. In Psalm 42, he beautifully demonstrated how we can speak truth to our soul, even from the depths of our discouragement.

3. TAKE COMFORT IN GOD’S PROMISES.
He’ll never leave us or forsake us (Deut. 31:6). He’ll be our advocate (1 John 2:1), our refuge (2 Sam. 22:3), and our strong tower (Prov. 18:10).

He’ll comfort and quiet us (Isaiah 51:12), surround us with His love (Psalm 33:22), and, one day, He’ll wipe all the tears from our eyes (Rev. 21:4).

4. SURRENDER YOUR DESIRES AND TRUST HIM.
Jesus, in the garden of Gethsemane, prayed what one author called “the prayer of relinquishment.” After He begged God to allow the cup of suffering to pass from Him, He chose to trust God and surrendered His will to the Father.

One day, Jesus will triumph over death, hell, and the grave. He’ll wipe the disappointed tears from our faces one last time and show us how “our momentary light affliction [produced] for us an absolutely incomparable eternal weight of glory” (2 Cor. 4:17).

Until then, disappointment will be part of our human experience. When we encounter it, it’s okay to weep. With God’s help, we can prayerfully examine our expectations, take comfort in God’s promises, bring our desires to Him, and surrender to His will.

HOW GOD SEES US IN OUR DISAPPOINTMENT

sees you in your disappointment with deep compassion and closeness, meeting your hurt with a gentle heart rather than anger or distance.When your plans fall apart or expectations go unmet, Scripture shows how the Lord views and responds to your pain:

1.He Draws Near to Your Pain He is close: The Bible says the Lord is near to those who have a broken heart and a crushed spirit (Psalm 34:18).He understands grief: Jesus was a "man of sorrows" who experienced deep human emotion and wept over brokenness.He is not surprised: God does not look at your tears or struggles with disappointment in you; He looks at you with steadfast love.

2.He Welcomes Your Honest EmotionsNo need to fake a smile: You do not have to pretend everything is fine. Bible figures like Hannah brought their raw bitterness and tears straight to God.
He listens to confusion: God invites you to be honest about your hurt instead of carrying the heavy weight alone.

3.He Works Through the DelayA larger plan: What feels like a setback or a closed door is often a place where God protects you or prepares you for something greater.
Redefining the outcome; Just as God used the immense pain of the cross to bring ultimate victory, He can use your current struggle for your long-term good.

DAY1: Today re ya go bua hela ka (What is Disappointment and why it hurts so much)

POINT 1: WHAT IS DISAPPOINTMENT?
feeling you get when reality doesn’t match your expectations.
Examples: Delayed marriage, lost job, unanswered prayer, broken relationships, ministry doors closed.

POINT 2: WHY DISAPPOINTMENT HURTS SO MUCH

"why does disappointment hurt so much? It's not just a feeling, it touches our spirit.

3 Reasons why:

a) WE HAD BIG EXPECTATIONS. We built a picture in our mind of how life should be. When it doesn't happen, our heart breaks. Proverbs 13:12 says hope deferred makes the heart sick. We expected promotion, marriage, healing — and it didn't come.

b) WE INVESTED SO MUCH. Time, prayer, fasting, money, love. When you invest your heart into something and it fails, it hurts. Like Hannah in 1 Samuel 1 — she prayed for years for a child and wept bitterly.

c) WE START TO QUESTION OUR WORTH AND GOD'S GOODNESS. The enemy whispers, 'Maybe you are not good enough. Maybe God has forgotten you.'
But that is a lie! Your disappointment does not define you. Your value is in Christ.

Illustration: "It's like waiting for a bus in Gaborone sun. You waited 2 hours, and then bus passes you. You feel tired, angry, and you want to give up and go home. That is disappointment."
