Karma Drubdey Palmo Choskyi Dingkhang ORIGINAL NAME OF THE NUNNERY: Karma Drubdey Nunnery, as given by the 16th Gyalwang Karmapa You can see the full view of the nunnery from the main road below.

ORIGINS OF THE NUNNERY; The nunnery was founded by the Very Venerable Khenpo Tsultrim Gyamtso Rinpoche in 1968. Rinpoche underwent extreme hardships and undertook the practice of yogic life at a very young age while living in Tibet. His life style very much resembled that of the lord Milarepa and, therefore in subsequent years, Rinpoche was widely known in the West as the Milarepa of our time. The

nunnery is located on the hilltop above the winter palace of the late second king. It is about a 30-minute walk, up a beautiful trail. However, a new road to the nunnery has been constructed quite recently and you can drive there directly now. Rinpoche was granted refugee status in Bhutan by the great Queen mother, Ashi Phuntsho Choden Wangchuk. Rinpoche, along with 13 nuns who escaped with him from Tibet, stayed in the Kuengarabten Palace and the Buli Lhakhang in Bumthang during the winter and summer, respectively.
