The Horticulture Association of Bhutan is honored to have nominated Mr. Kalyan Mahat for this distinguished international recognition. This award reflects his outstanding contribution to Bhutan’s horticulture sector, his dedication to sustainable agriculture, and his commitment to environmental conservation.

As the Founder and CEO of Jinlab Agro Products, Mr. Mahat has pioneered commercial kiwifruit cultivation in Bhutan and has successfully promoted organic, value-added agricultural products that benefit farmers, consumers, and rural communities. His vision, innovation, and leadership continue to inspire the growth of Bhutan’s agribusiness sector.

The award, presented by the National Pollution Control and Environment Conservation Committee (NPCECC) in collaboration with Visvesvaraya Technological University (VTU), India, recognizes individuals who have made exceptional contributions to society, environmental protection, and sustainable development.

The Horticulture Association of Bhutan is honored to have nominated Bhutan Hydroponics in recognition of Mrs. Kinley Wangmo’s outstanding leadership and pioneering efforts in promoting hydroponic farming, innovation, and sustainable horticulture in Bhutan.

Since establishing Bhutan Hydroponics in 2020, she has been at the forefront of introducing modern, environmentally friendly farming practices, producing fresh pesticide-free vegetables, and inspiring farmers, entrepreneurs, and young people to embrace sustainable agriculture. The Horticulture Association of Bhutan is honored to announce an important milestone in strengthening horticultural cooperation between the Kingdom of Bhutan and the Kingdom of Thailand.

Dr. Tshering Wangchuk, President of the Horticulture Association of Bhutan, held an official meeting with Ms. Kanjana Thongna, Director of the Academic Group, Horticulture Research Institute, Department of Agriculture, Bangkok, Thailand. The meeting focused on enhancing collaboration between our organizations and advancing partnerships in horticulture, research, innovation, and sustainable development.

A key outcome of the meeting was the mutual commitment to cooperate in preparation for the World Horticultural Expo 2026, Udon Thani, Thailand, which will take place from 1 November 2026 to 14 March 2027. This prestigious international event will bring together nations from around the world to showcase horticultural excellence, cultural heritage, innovation, and sustainable development.

As part of this global celebration, Bhutan will proudly present its national gardening concept:

GREENER HABITAT FOR HAPPY LIFESTYLE

This theme reflects Bhutan’s vision of creating greener, healthier, and happier communities by strengthening the connection between people, nature, and the environment while promoting sustainable living.

This official meeting marks another significant step in the growing friendship and cooperation between Bhutan and Thailand. Together, we look forward to fostering knowledge exchange, building lasting partnerships, and contributing to the future of sustainable horticulture on the global stage.

Public Information Notice

The Horticulture Association of Bhutan (HoAB) would like to inform all stakeholders, partners, and the general public that it will be leading the management and coordination of the designated commercial space for Bhutan’s participation in the International Horticultural Expo 2027 (GREEN EXPO 2027) in Yokohama, Japan.

This responsibility has been entrusted through the Bhutan Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BCCI) in coordination with the Department of Agricultural Marketing and Cooperatives (DAMC), Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock (MoAL).

HoAB will facilitate the promotion, exhibition, and commercial operations of Bhutanese horticulture and “Made in Bhutan” products, ensuring effective private sector participation and representation at this international platform.

We look forward to the support and collaboration of all stakeholders in making this initiative a success.

Despite widespread access to electricity, many households, particularly in rural areas, still rely on firewood and liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) for cooking. Against this backdrop, the government has also been driving a national transition to cleaner cooking fuels. Now, a new private initiative, backed by carbon finance and using the country’s hydropower-generated electricity, is set to bolster that effort.
