🌸 From Community Learning to Eco-Entrepreneur: Meet Sonam Wangmo 🌸
From a dedicated housewife and proud De-suup to a rising green entrepreneur, Sonam Wangmo from Mongar is showing us all how community support can turn "trash into treasure!"
Sonam’s journey began when she joined the Women’s Self-Support Group - Waste Management. It was here that she learned the valuable skill of upcycling—discovering how to take plastic and old sacks that would otherwise pollute our environment and weave them into durable, beautiful, and useful products.
Equipped with this new skill, Sonam didn't just stop at making them. She took to TikTok to raise awareness about waste management and market her products directly to the public.
The incredible results in just 3 months?
🗑️ Tons of plastic waste diverted from landfills and saved from harming the environment.
💰 Around Nu. 30,000 in earnings generated directly from her recycled products!
"The skills I learned from the self-support group changed everything. The extra income has been a major blessing—it helps us cover our daily basic necessities, and it has even given me the means to send money back to my relatives." — Sonam Wangmo
Sonam’s success is a shining example of what happens when we invest in women's self-support groups. She embodies the true spirit of a De-suup—serving her community, protecting Bhutan's environment, and building financial independence right from home.
Let’s celebrate and support our sister from Mongar! 🇧🇹✨
