Bhutan Film Society is deeply honored to pay our heartfelt tribute to the late Pema Tseden on his death anniversary. Marking this moment through the privilege of revisiting one of his most profound works, Old Dog (2011). It has been both a humbling and deeply moving experience for all of us.
Over the past two weeks, we have had the rare opportunity to immerse ourselves in his cinematic world, made possible through the generous support and guidance of Norbu Tshering of Nortse Production. Beginning with The Search (2009) and culminating in Old Dog (2011), this journey has allowed us to look beyond the surface of his films and glimpse the depth of his convictions as a filmmaker. Through his films we feel his need for resistance done in such a subtle way and his unwavering commitment to portraying the realities of Tibetan life with honesty and dignity.
It is an immeasurable loss for our community, and for the broader cinematic world, to have lost a filmmaker of his caliber especially one whose voice emerged so powerfully from our own region. Yet, even in his absence, his presence endures. His films remain with us as teachers, urging us to listen more closely, to observe more patiently and to tell our own stories with truth and compassion.
Bhutan Film Society will continue to screen the rest of late Pema Tseden's films and its open to all who are interested. On behalf of BFS I would like to once again thank Mr. Norbu Thsering and I would also like to thank Thinley Wangchuk for connecting us with Mr. Norbu la. This is a wonderful example how films tend to unite us and build on the community.
