Meet young farmer Dechen Pema from Agurung in Phuntshothang Gewog, who chose to continue farming and care for her family farm instead of moving to urban centres.

โ€œFor the past four years, I have been working on the farm. Farming is not easy, but with the support of the Mini Power Tiller, manual labour has been reduced, farming has become easier and more efficient.โ€

She is one of the 26 beneficiaries supported with gender-inclusive mini power tillers.

The project is implemented by the Lhomon Society with support from Office of Cabinet Affairs and Strategic Coordination Prime Minister's Office - PMO, Bhutan India in Bhutan (Embassy of India, Thimphu), and the Civil Society Organization Authority (CSOA).

Mr. Tempa Wangdi, a smallholder farmer from Dewathang, is transforming his livelihood through vermicomposting.

In just one year, he has produced and supplied more than one metric tonne of vermicompost, earning approximately Nu. 36,000 through sales in the local market facilitated by our Social Enterprise Kantali Store

Lhomon Society extends its sincere gratitude to the Bhutan Foundation for supporting this important project.

Marking a significant milestone, Chokyi Gyatso Institute - Dewathang, in collaboration with the Lhomon Societyโ€™s Lhomon Education Program, is conducting its first-ever Hospitality and Culinary Arts training for cooks, monks, teachers, and community members.

From mastering the flames in the kitchen to perfecting presentation and service, participants are gaining practical skills that allow them to serve others with greater excellence, whether in the monastery, community events, or daily life.

This initiative blends ancient wisdom with modern vocational training, empowering everyone to turn cooking and hospitality into acts of generosity and joy.

The 10-day training is currently underway at CGI, with 18 participants actively engaging in the program facilitated by the Bhutan Institute of Tourism and Hospitality, one of the leading institutions for training in the tourism and hospitality industry.

Stay tuned for further updates.

In observance of World Environment Day, Jigme Namgyel Engineering College (JNEC) joined hands with the Lhomon Society, Samdrup Jongkhar Initiative (LMS-SJI), Dewathang, to promote environmental stewardship and raise awareness on reducing plastic waste.

The initiative encouraged students, faculty, staff, and community members to refuse single-use plastics, carry their own shopping bags, and adopt reusable and eco-friendly alternatives in their daily lives. As part of the awareness campaign, participants promoted the use of the Eco Weave Bag as a practical symbol of commitment to sustainable living.

By choosing reusable bags over disposable plastics, individuals can take simple but meaningful steps towards reducing plastic pollution. The campaign served as a reminder that environmental responsibility begins with everyday choices.

Celebrated globally every year on June 5, World Environment Day is the United Nationsโ€™ premier platform for encouraging environmental awareness and collective action. Through this initiative, JNEC and LMS-SJI reaffirmed their shared commitment to sustainability and urged everyone to act today for the climate, the environment, and our future.

Inspired by Her Majestyโ€™s unwavering commitment to environmental conservation, we marked the occasion through an educational programme on zero-waste management practices, promoting reusable alternatives to single-use plastic carry bags, and launching our Eco-Weave Shopping Bag.

As part of the celebration, we cleaned-up an illegal dumpsite, conducted waste segregation activities, and undertook a basic waste audit to better understand the composition and sources of the discarded waste.

Through these efforts, we reaffirmed our commitment to fostering responsible waste management and a cleaner, greener environment for all.
