Today in Parliament, we are debating amendments to the Anti-Terrorism Act — legislation aimed at strengthening our national security framework and ensuring that The Bahamas remains equipped to confront modern threats.

At the same time, the Prime Minister has announced another important achievement for our country: a Budget surplus.

These may appear to be separate issues, but both speak to the same fundamental responsibility of government — protecting the stability of our nation.

We must protect our people from threats to our security, while also protecting our economic future through sound and responsible fiscal management.

National security is not only about our borders, law enforcement and intelligence. It is also about strong institutions, financial stability and a government capable of responding to challenges when they arise.

Today, we continue the work of strengthening The Bahamas — safer, stronger and more financially secure. 🇧🇸

Today is a continuation of recognizing our nation’s heroes.

When we think of heroes, we often think of something from a Marvel comic or movie — someone with incredible strength, extraordinary powers, or even the ability to fly.

But today, as I sit here and look at those being honoured, I am reminded that our real heroes are often very different.

They are people with the ability to strengthen others, the ability to help others fly, and the willingness to carry our nation on their backs through service, sacrifice and commitment.

They may not wear capes, but through their lives and their work, they have lifted families, communities and our country.

So today, I salute all of our national heroes and honourees, and I extend a very special salute to my father-in-law, Reverend Hiram Arthur Hield of Water Cay.

Your service, your example and your contribution to our nation are worthy of recognition.

Congratulations to you, and to all of today’s honourees.

Elijah Brice’s funeral was one of the most well-attended funerals I have ever had the privilege of attending.

The tremendous turnout was a powerful reflection of a life that touched and impacted so many people throughout our country.

Following the service, I attended the repass, where I had the opportunity to catch up with many familiar faces as we continued to pay tribute to a life well lived.

And, of course, no day would be complete without making a stop in the constituency — where I ran into Boss Lady Mavis and waved hello to Sharell.

A day of remembrance, fellowship and community.

Through it all, to God be the glory.

Happy National Heroes Day!

Today, I was back on the ground in Mt. Moriah — walking the streets, knocking on doors, listening, talking and reconnecting with the people I am privileged to serve.

Leadership is not only about speaking. It is about showing up, listening and understanding what’s going on in our communities.

There is still work to do, and I remain committed to doing it — one street, one home and one family at a time.

Mt. Moriah, I’m with you. 💛💙
