A closer look at our 2026 Call for Social Investment Proposals awardees 🇬🇾

Our third spotlight is Tamùkke Feminists, which will use its GYD$5 million allocation to implement Wapichan Youth Voices in the South Rupununi.

For young women to express themselves with confidence, they need the knowledge and tools to do so. The initiative will build that foundation by exploring healthy relationships, personal safety, wellbeing, communication and leadership with participants from the Indigenous Wapichan community.

Taking those lessons beyond the programme, the women will work with a media professional to produce a short video series in their own language and lead screenings across their villages.

Alongside the Wapichan Wiizi Women’s Movement, South Rupununi District Council, Tamùkke Feminists is helping equip a new generation to speak up on issues that affect their lives.

We’re happy to play a part in creating more opportunities for the next generation.

Tamùkke Feminists exists to nurture feminist leaders across Guyana. Now we're inviting you to help lead the collective itself !

Tamùkke is an almost decade old intersectional feminist collective. We do public education on sexual and reproductive health and rights, LBTQ+ rights, mental health and gender-based violence. Our work has included the Mind Fund for therapy access, our ongoing Sexual Health and Reproductive Justice Training and feminist-focused capacity building for women leaders.
Our incoming Board will be onboarded by the current Board which will be transitioning out December 2027.

We're looking for leaders who share our commitment to bodily autonomy, anti-oppression, and anti-discrimination. We also welcome academics working in Feminist Caribbean Theory, research and activism.

Vision and the ability to bring people together and lead the board. (Chairperson, Vice Chairperson)

Strong organisational skills and clear record-keeping (Secretary)

Financial know-how and a commitment to transparency (Treasurer)

Tamùkke sees feminist leadership as a practice of care, accountability and collective power. If that's how you lead, we want to hear from you!

Silence Is Not Neutral ! Act Now on the Allegations Against SOCU's Head Fazil Karimbaksh

Tamùkke Feminists finds it deeply disturbing that serious allegations of r**e and death threats made by a serving female officer against Deputy Commissioner of Police and Head of the Special Organised Crime Unit (SOCU), Fazil Karimbaksh are being met with silence and non-action by the Guyana Police Force and the state.
We strongly denounce this as both silence and inaction embolden perpetrators of such acts. A woman has come forward at great personal risk, and the institutions charged with protecting the public, including her, have offered no public word, no assurance, and no visible action. That silence is not neutrality! It sends a message to the survivor, to every woman in the Force, and to every woman in Guyana: that power will be protected first.

Tamùkke Feminists reiterate that silence and inaction emboldens perpetrators. When those accused of sexual violence remain in positions of authority, untouched and unquestioned, it signals that abuse carries no consequence. It deters survivors from reporting and erodes public trust in the very system meant to deliver justice.
Tamùkke calls for:

An immediate independent investigation which is free from the influence of the Guyana Police Force's chain of command.

1. Mr. Karimbaksh MUST be sent on administrative leave pending the outcome. This ensures that he holds no authority over the complainant, witnesses, or the investigation.

2. Urgent protective measures for the survivor including guarantees of her physical safety given the reported threats against her life, and protection from retaliation, reassignment or intimidation within the Force.

3. Immediate access to confidential, trauma-informed psychosocial support for the survivor, provided independently of the Police Force.

4. A clear public statement from the Guyana Police Force and the Government on the steps being taken.

Guyana's commitment to ending gender-based violence will be measured by how it responds when the accused is among the powerful.

We stand with the survivor and we will be watching !

Our September gave us an opportunity to explore tips and routines, share advice for mental wellbeing and served as a great opportunity for us to bond !

Tamùkke remains committed to providing a safe space for.women and we look forward to our next UTB in November !

In early July, we held our annual retreat, "Breeze and Bloom," to create a space for 💛 self-care! Using 🌿 nature as a natural therapist and 🧘 movement as a healing tool we worked on normalising rest, softness and embodiment as feminist practices.
