🦇 The Amazon basin is home to more than 160 described bat species - roughly 10% of the world’s total.
🦇 While most bats are insectivores, rainforests have a surprisingly high proportion of fruit-eating species that play a crucial ecological role as seed dispersers.
🦇 Bat identification is notoriously challenging, and with this level of diversity it can feel almost impossible - but with a specialist biologist and a field guide by your side, it becomes one of the most rewarding activities you can do out here.
🦇 “Bat day” is, without exception, the most hyped day of every course. Bats are mysterious creatures we rarely encounter beyond a silhouette in the evening sky. Getting hands-on experience and meeting them face to face has changed the way many of our participants see them.
