"Fashion designing is a combination of arts and science"

In celebration of Science Month 2025, the Youth for Environment in Schools Organization (YES-O) spearheaded a vibrant and meaningful activity entitled "Lakan at Lakambini ng Kalikasan 2025" on September 30, 2025. This event aimed to raise awareness about environmental protection, endangered species, and the rich cultural diversity of the Philippines, by showcasing student creativity and advocacy through a unique eco-fashion and cultural presentation.

The theme for this year's competition was:
"Endangered Species with a Tribal Twist: A Showcase of Recyclable and Indigenous Fashion."

Participants were tasked to design and wear costumes made from recyclable and indigenous materials, representing an endangered species while being inspired by the traditional attire of various Filipino tribes such as the Ifugao, T'boli, Badjao, and others. The fusion of environmental advocacy and cultural heritage made the activity both educational and visually inspiring.

Objectives

To promote environmental awareness and action among students.

To showcase creativity through the use of recyclable and indigenous materials.

To emphasize the importance of protecting endangered species.

To celebrate the rich cultural identity of the Philippines.

To encourage youth participation in environmental and cultural advocacies.

A total of 6 pairs of students from different grade levels competed for the titles of Lakan at Lakambini ng Kalikasan 2025.

Each pair confidently presented their eco-friendly and tribe-inspired costumes on stage while sharing facts about their chosen endangered species.

The "Lakan at Lakambini ng Kalikasan 2025" successfully combined science education, environmental advocacy, and cultural appreciation. Students, teachers, and guests were inspired by the participants' creativity and the powerful messages behind each presentation. The event reinforced the importance of protecting endangered species, reducing waste through recycling, and valuing indigenous traditions.

This celebration proved that education, art, and advocacy can come together to promote a more sustainable and culturally-aware generation.

At the heart of our school’s( Galalan Integrated National High School) commitment to sustainability and nutrition is the Gulayan sa Paaralan program—where students take the lead in cultivating a vibrant school garden. Guided by their passion and sense of responsibility, learners work hand in hand with the Youth for Environment in Schools Organization (YES-O) and dedicated stakeholders from the Galalan Agrarian Reform Beneficiary Multi-Purpose Cooperative.

Together, we plant not just seeds, but values—teamwork, responsibility, and environmental stewardship.

Through this partnership, we aim to:
🌿 Promote sustainable agriculture
🥕 Provide fresh, nutritious vegetables for school and community use
🤝 Strengthen collaboration between youth, educators, and local cooperatives
🌎 Empower future leaders to care for the environment

One goal. One garden. One community.
Let’s grow a healthier, greener tomorrow—together.
