SPACC is deeply saddened to share the news of the passing of one of our founders and dear friends, Doug Cowley. Doug was a catalyst for the formation of SPACC and always had the community’s best interests at heart. He walked a path that many aspire to walk - one guided by ethics, morals and a true belief that all people are created equal.

Doug will be celebrated by his family in a private ceremony.

We send our love and support to his wife Claire (also a founding and active member of SPACC), his children, and grandchildren during this difficult time.

Doug, we will attempt to continue your mission and to centre equity and community in everything we do. 🤍

The Hospice Hub is looking for community volunteers in Delta. Could that be you?

💙 Volunteers Needed in Our Communities 💙

The Hospice Hub is currently seeking compassionate volunteers in the Delta, Elgin, and Portland areas to support individuals and families in their communities.

Volunteering with The Hospice Hub is an opportunity to make a meaningful difference—offering companionship, a listening ear, practical support, and a caring presence to those who may be facing challenging times.

✨ You don’t need to be a healthcare professional.
What matters most is your willingness to listen, connect, and be there for someone when they need it most.

Whether you have a few hours to give each week or simply want to learn more about how you can help, we would love to hear from you.

💙 Your time can make a difference. Your presence can bring comfort.

If you’re interested in becoming a Hospice Hub volunteer in Delta, Elgin, or Portland, or another area we service, please reach out to learn more about this rewarding opportunity. The 5 week volunteer training starts September 14th!

Pat Phillips awarded the Ontario Senior of the Year Award -

Rideau Lakes resident Pat Phillips was presented with the Ontario Senior of the Year Award, a program that gives each municipality in Ontario the opportunity to recognize an outstanding senior who, after age 65, enriches the social, cultural or civic life of the community.

This provincial award, overseen by the Ministry of Citizenship and Multiculturalism was awarded to a well-known local and long-time resident, Pat Phillips for her incredible volunteerism.

June is recognized as ‘Seniors Month’ in Ontario, and many seniors generously contribute their knowledge, care, and time to build their communities. This year, through a nomination made by Rideau Lakes Council, Pat Phillips is the well-deserved recipient of this prestigious award.

During the presentation, Mayor Hoogenboom thanked Ms. Phillips for her years of volunteer efforts in the community.

Mayor Hoogenboom proudly presented Ms. Phillips with a certificate at the Delta Coffee Drop-in on Monday, July 27, 2026, to acknowledge the important contribution made to the local community.
