Season for Nonviolence – T & T is a 64-day national peace-building initiative observed annually from 30 January (Martyrdom of Mahatma Gandhi) to 4 April (Assassination of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.). Inspired by the timeless principles of Mahatma Gandhi and Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., the Season for Nonviolence promotes nonviolence as a practical way of life—one that fosters respect, compassion, justice, and social harmony in our communities. Throughout the 64 days, this page shares daily principles of nonviolence, reflections rooted in the lived realities of Trinidad and Tobago, educational content, calls to action, and opportunities for individuals, families, schools, faith groups, and civil society organizations to participate. The Season for Nonviolence is an international program developed by the families and descendants of Mahatma Gandhi and Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., and is implemented in Trinidad and Tobago by Gandhi Seva Sangh, custodians of the Mahatma Gandhi Statue on Harris (Parish) Promenade, San Fernando. Our aim is to nurture a culture of peace by encouraging personal responsibility, constructive dialogue, and nonviolent responses to conflict—beginning with the individual and extending to the nation. Join us as we practice nonviolence, one principle at a time.
