Founded by the late managing director of Mohammed’s Electrical Company Limited an

d former Aranjuez and San Juan United left-arm spinner Roustom Mohammed in 1993, MECA was established to provide coaching opportunities for children in the immediate community and wider environs. Now in its 20th year of operation and still based at the Aranjuez Sports Club, MECA’s 2012 cricket clinic has 112 students registered. They are catered for by a dedicated team of coaches led by Rajindra Ramadhin and supported by a team of volunteers headed by Sookdeo Ragoonanan. In recognising the value of the Academy, Kripal Singh, manager of the Aranjuez Sports Club first team that has qualified for the top division of the National Cricket League for 2013, paid tribute to the role of MECA in the club’s success, pointing out that teenagers Vikash Mohan and Idrees Mohammed have come through the system and are now poised to play increasingly important roles in Aranjuez’s return to the top level.
