Bermuda’s consumer protection system may be changing — and this is an important opportunity to have your say.
Age Concern Bermuda welcomes the potential benefits of stronger competition oversight and enforcement. At the same time, we believe any new system must remain accessible, responsive and person-centred, especially for older adults and others who may need help navigating complaints or exercising their rights.
For us, that means preserving practical access to support through telephone, face-to-face and paper-based options alongside digital services; ensuring consumers are not passed from agency to agency; allowing trusted family members, caregivers or advocates to assist where appropriate; and creating clear pathways for urgent cases involving healthcare, essential services, financial exploitation or serious hardship.
Most importantly, individual consumer concerns should not become lost within a broader regulatory system.
The Government’s consultation on Promoting Competition and Market Fairness in Bermuda closes on September 15, 2026.
We encourage our members and the wider community to read the proposal, consider how these changes could affect you or someone you care for, and use your own voice.
Ask yourself:
Would I know where to go for help?
Would I still be able to speak with a real person?
What happens if my issue is urgent?
How will older adults and vulnerable consumers continue to be heard?
Visit the Government consultation forum to learn more and submit your views:

Stronger regulation should also mean stronger access to support.

The first GrandFriends Pen Pal Programme cohort has officially come to a close, and we are so pleased to celebrate the connections formed through this meaningful intergenerational pilot!!!
Delivered in collaboration by Age Concern Bermuda, Dementia Bermuda, and Saltus Grammar School, the programme brought together older adults participating through Dementia Bermuda’s Cognitive Stimulation Therapy programme and Saltus Grammar School students through thoughtful letter exchanges.
Participants shared stories, asked questions, exchanged encouragement, and built relationships across generations. This pilot reflects the power of partnership, storytelling, and community connection. It created space for older adults and young people to learn from one another, strengthen understanding, and experience the joy that can come from simple, intentional communication.
To every participant who wrote, read, shared, laughed, and connected — thank you for helping us show what community can look like and for bringing GrandFriends to life.
Special thanks to Centennial Bermuda Foundation for supporting this initiative.
We look forward to building on what we have learned and exploring future cohorts of GrandFriends. 💜💌
