IWPG Convenes 2026 International Branch General Meeting, Emphasizing Women’s Role as Agents of Peace.
The International Women’s Peace Group (IWPG) held its 2026 International Branch Annual General Meeting online on January 30, bringing together more than 1,000 participants from across the globe. The large-scale international event connected IWPG headquarters and branch staff, peace committee representatives, and peace advocates from Korea and overseas.
A total of 700 IWPG staff members, 200 Peace Committee representatives, and 200 international advocates took part in the meeting, which focused on reviewing IWPG’s achievements in 2025 and outlining its strategic vision and core initiatives for 2026.
In her opening address, IWPG Chairwoman Na Yeong Jeon highlighted the growing instability in the global landscape and stressed the importance of women’s leadership in peacebuilding. She stated that as a global women’s peace network representing solidarity among women worldwide, IWPG seeks to create a world in which all women can live peaceful lives despite ongoing conflicts and wars.
Jeon emphasized that peace can be realized when women take the lead as active agents, practice peace in their daily lives, and continue working toward the institutionalization of sustainable peace.
The meeting also featured congratulatory messages from international figures, including Woo Ok-ran, an IWPG advisory member; Gil Nisetaz B. Villarino, President of Leyte Normal University in the Philippines; Guillermo Narváez Osorio, Rector of Universidad Juárez Autónoma de Tabasco in Mexico; and Mevlüt Karakaya, a Member of Parliament in Ankara, Türkiye.
IWPG Secretary General Kyungnam Choi presented a report on the organization’s major achievements over the past year and announced IWPG’s new vision for 2026, titled “Women and Girls Shaping the Future of Sustainable Peace.” She underscored that women should be recognized not as passive beneficiaries of peace but as key actors in building and sustaining it, a principle that will guide IWPG’s global activities moving forward.
IWPG is an international women’s non-governmental organization registered with the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) and the Department of Global Communications (DGC).
