Stefan Rennick-Egglestone, mental health researcher at the Institute of Mental Health (Nottingham, UK), will join ENMESH 2026 as a keynote speaker, bringing an important perspective on the role of lived experience in mental health research.

His work explores the ethical, legal, and methodological challenges of online trials and the use of lived experience narratives as a key component of digital mental health interventions. He completed his PhD at the University of Nottingham, focusing on how rehabilitation technologies can become part of everyday life for stroke survivors.

Dr. Rennick-Egglestone also brings his own lived experience of disabling mental health problems to his research and actively advocates for greater inclusion of lived experience perspectives in healthcare research and practice.

He is the co-founder of the Institute of Mental Health Peer Research Academy, which supports researchers with lived experience and works to address structural barriers within academic careers.

In his keynote, Working in the margins: how researchers with lived experience influence research, and what we can do to support them, Dr. Rennick-Egglestone will explore how lived experience researchers improve the relevance, inclusivity, and impact of mental health research — and what institutions can do to support their success.

06/02/2026

Elvira Pérez Vallejos, Professor of Mental Health and Digital Technology at the University of Nottingham, will join ENMESH 2026 as a keynote speaker, bringing a leading interdisciplinary perspective at the intersection of mental health, digital innovation, and responsible AI.

With a background in psychology and extensive experience across computer science and medicine, her work focuses on how digital technologies shape wellbeing, trust, and human experience.

Ms. Pérez Vallejos has led and contributed to major national and international initiatives on responsible and trustworthy AI, digital mental health, and public engagement, and has provided evidence to the UK Parliament on the societal impact of algorithms and online environments.

In her keynote, Responsible Technologies for Death and Dying, Ms. Pérez Vallejos will explore how emerging digital tools are transforming end-of-life practices — from online memorialisation and grief support to posthumous data management. The presentation will examine how these technologies raise critical questions around privacy, consent, emotional resilience, and online safety.

Drawing on principles of Responsible Research and Innovation, she will discuss both risks and opportunities within this emerging “Death Tech” space, highlighting how thoughtful design and ethical frameworks can help ensure dignity, security, and wellbeing for individuals, families, and communities.

23/01/2026

Sara Evans-Lacko, Associate Professorial Research Fellow at the Care Policy and Evaluation Centre (CPEC), London School of Economics and Political Science, will join ENMESH 2026 as a keynote speaker, bringing an interdisciplinary perspective on how mental health services should be evaluated in rapidly changing social and digital contexts.

A mental health services researcher with a PhD in Health Policy and Management from the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health, Evans-Lacko’s work examines how health services and social support can improve access to care, reduce stigma and disrupt the cycle between mental health and poverty that reproduces inequality across the lifespan.

In her keynote, What We Count, What We Miss: Rethinking Mental Health Service Evaluation, she will explore how shifting service models - including digital tools, hybrid delivery, and new opportunities to link data across systems - require us to reconsider what we measure and why. She will focus on how implementation and engagement are assessed, including reach, acceptability, sustained participation, and quality of delivery.

Drawing on examples from both digital and in-person interventions, she will discuss how evaluation can better capture whether people not only gain access to support, but are able to use it in ways that fit real-life constraints.

Ms. Evans-Lacko will also consider how policies in areas such as education, employment, and social protection can be conceptualised and evaluated as part of the broader mental health service environment - shaping life chances and inequalities over time.
