Usfs crews and heavy equipment are trying to get lines around the fire up by Dalton, it's called the Gill Gulch Fire. Its all dead and downed and very hard to work thru just to get to the fire. About a mile hike thru what's shown in the picture. They have lots of machinery cutting their way in so they can work the fire safely and effectively. So far mother nature and the helicopter are keeping it in check. There's several spot fires and crews are working on getting those knocked out. IT WILL FLARE UP AGAIN AND PUT UP A LOT OF SMOKE. Its far from over. The moisture we got couldn't have come at a better time to lay it down, but its temporary.

🔥Weekly Wildfire Situation Update🔥

Last week, Montana saw 69 new wildfires, burning approximately 534 acres. To date, there have been 1,276 fires burning 18,547 acres statewide.

The Sucker Creek Fire near Lincoln, caused by lightning, is the largest fire on DNRC protection this week at 80 acres.

Higher-than-normal humidity is expected across much of the state. Thunderstorms are likely, but precipitation will be spotty, especially in western Montana. These conditions can lead to new fire starts and fast-changing fire behavior. Do you part to prevent human-caused fires by practicing fire-safe behavior when working or recreating outdoors.

🔥 Sucker Creek Fire Update 🔥
Start Date: July 27, 2025
Location: 3 miles northwest of Lincoln, MT
Cause: Lightning
Size: 80 acres
Current Resources: 5 Engines; 1 Hand Crew; 1 Helicopter; 1 Skidgine; 2 Dozers; 1 Tender

CURRENT SITUATION & PLANNED ACTIONS
The Sucker Creek Fire was reported at approximately 1 p.m. on July 27, three miles northwest of Lincoln, Montana. Firefighters from DNRC, the Lincoln Ranger District, and the Lincoln Fire Department immediately engaged in suppression efforts. The fire is burning in grass and timber.

The fire grew rapidly due to outflowing winds from nearby thunderstorms. Crews worked into the night alongside a dozer constructing containment line on the western flank. Line construction continues today, with crews working to directly engage the fire when safe to do so. The fire is being managed under a full suppression strategy, and additional resources will be ordered as needed.

WEATHER & FIRE BEHAVIOR
Higher relative humidity overnight aided fuel moisture recovery, which may help moderate fire activity this morning. There is a chance of thunderstorms and winds this afternoon which could increase fire behavior.

EVACUATIONS & CLOSURES
There are no evacuations in place at this time. However, portions of Sucker Creek and Copper Creek Roads are closed due to fire suppression operations. Please avoid these areas to ensure public and firefighter safety.
