Four years ago, it started with emergency food packages.
No plan. No structure. Just urgent need and the will to act. Orphans. Young children. Women alone. In Afghanistan, having no male guardian means having no income and no rights. People who
needed help.
Thanks to the kindness and support of family, friends, and people around me, we managed to keep
going. Month after month, informally, we covered urgent needs. Food. Clothes. Basic survival.
But then something happened that changed everything.
When Afghan girls were suddenly banned from school, we were shocked. Devastated.đź’”
These weren't just statistics. These were brilliant, motivated young girls whose futures disappeared
overnight.
So we did what we could—we launched a pilot project.
Informal, small-scale. Teaching sewing and embroidery to give them skills, income, independence.
And it worked. But we also realized something critical: they didn't just need professional training.
They needed psychosocial support. Safe spaces. Someone to listen.
That's when we knew: this has to become something bigger.
Today, I'm proud to announce the official launch of Ties of Tomorrow vzw.
A registered Belgian nonprofit dedicated to education and economic empowerment for Afghan girls
denied their fundamental right to school.
This wouldn't exist without exceptional people who believed in this vision and chose to invest their
time, energy, and hearts into making it real. ❤
Huge thanks to Katleen de Beukeleer , Dokter Réginald Moreels, Margaux Bia , Marc Ecker , Annick Bongers, Ihcene Hisari and so many others supporting us behind the scenes.❤️
The program:
→ Vocational training in sewing, embroidery & entrepreneurship
→ Complete business starter kits for every beneficiary
→ Digital education (languages, ICT, life skills)
→ Financial literacy & business management
→ Psychosocial support in safe spaces
🛑🛑 1.4 million Afghan girls are currently denied education.
We can't reach them all.
But for those we do reach, everything changes.
