📦 INSIDE THE EXHIBITION: NO NEED TO EXPORT

📅 18 October–12 December 2026
📍 Mundo-B, Rue d’Edimbourg 26, 1050 Ixelles, Brussels

Hindi kailangang ipaliwanag ang lahat.

For people living in the diaspora, translation can become part of everyday life. We learn to label what was once instinctive, declare what we carry, and make parts of ourselves understandable enough to travel. Sometimes this is generous, an invitation for someone else to receive. But it can also become an expectation: that migrants arrive with their contents listed, origins clearly marked, and meanings properly addressed. 📦

No Need to Export asks what happens when Filipinos are released from that obligation, and from the exhaustion of constantly providing handling instructions.

Across the exhibition, meaning is shipped through ordinary things. Further along, translation gets held up in transit.

The exhibition does not reject translation altogether. It invites Filipino viewers to notice where translation becomes performance and to allow themselves the freedom not to package every meaning for easy handling. For non-Filipino visitors, it asks for curiosity without entitlement: to approach what is unfamiliar without assuming that understanding must always be delivered.

This post takes a closer look at the artworks behind No Need to Export, alongside glimpses of the vernissage that first brought us together. ❤️

BeLikha, in this artist spotlight series, is introducing the people behind the collective and the different ways they navigate making, identity, and life in diaspora. ⭐

🇵🇭🇧🇪 MEET BELIKHA, AGAIN.

BeLikha is a tropahan/multidisciplinary collective of Filipino artists and creatives based in Belgium. What began in 2023 as a simple need to find one another has grown into a space for artists across generations (from oldies to the young fr), disciplines, and backgrounds to gather, create, experiment, and build community together. 👫🏻

Since then, BeLikha has moved through exhibitions, workshops, festivals, and collaborations across Belgium, France, and Norway, bringing Filipino creative practice into churches, embassies, restaurants, fortresses, community spaces, and anywhere we can get a free/sponsored space. Our projects have explored diaspora, Philippine history, migration, gender, belonging, and the changing meanings of being Filipino away from the archipelago. ✈️

There is no single BeLikha aesthetic. What connects us is the act of making alongside one another, and creating room for the many ways we exist. 🎨🎭🎶

As we open a new chapter online aka this new and improved Facebook acount, we’ll be looking back at our archive, introducing the artists behind the collective, and sharing what we’re creating now.

Next up: 📦 NO NEED TO EXPORT, our upcoming Filipino diaspora exhibition in Brussels.

🎨 MEET BELIKHA ARTIST, LISANDRA CHAPUIS 🎨

[FR/NL IN THE COMMENTS]

Meet Lisandra Chapuis (), a painter based in Brussels and one of the artists taking part in BeLikha’s upcoming exhibition, No Need to Export. 🖼️

Lisandra joined BeLikha last year, becoming part of a growing community of Filipino artists and creatives working across Belgium. She is part of the Académie des Arts de la ville de Bruxelles. 🇵🇭🇧🇪

Lisandra’s work focuses on the joys she finds in life - simple meals, flowers on the table, shared moments with family and friends. Her goal is to capture these moments through her art as a reminder of this beautiful life that still exists and surrounds us. Through her art, she documents certain times in her life and pours softness, colour and warmth in the world. 🖍️

Through this artist series, BeLikha is introducing the people behind the collective, their practices, and the different ways they navigate making, identity, and life in diaspora. ⭐

You can see the work of Lisandra and the other participating artists at the opening in No Need to Export, opening this October in Brussels. 📦✨

🖼️ OFFICIAL INVITATION: NO NEED TO EXPORT EXPO 🖼️

BeLikha Creative Art Group and Friends is pleased to present No Need to Export, a Filipino diaspora exhibition bringing together Filipino artists based in Belgium. 🇵🇭🇧🇪

The exhibition considers the pressure placed on diaspora communities to make themselves legible, to explain their humour, soften contradictions, package culture, and translate identity for an outside audience. 📝

No Need to Export turns away from that expectation. ❌

Across different practices, the participating artists engage memory, labour, faith, care, humour, desire, class, migration, and contradiction. The works do not attempt to offer a single image of Filipino identity. Instead, they make space for what may remain coded, intimate, excessive, sentimental, devotional, uncomfortable, or difficult to translate. 📦🌍

What happens when Filipino artists do not perform culture as hospitality, nostalgia, decoration, or proof of integration? What becomes possible when meaning is allowed to remain partly untranslated? 🤔
