In the landmark opinion published on Wednesday, the court said countries must prevent harm to the climate system and that failing to do so could result in their having to pay compensation and make other forms of restitution. It says states are liable for all kinds of activities that harm the climate, but it takes explicit aim at fossil fuels.

In a packed court thousands of kilometres from home, Cynthia Houniuhi saw years of work come to fruition with the landmark ICJ opinion on climate harm

The Grand Flag Parade that was scheduled on June 30, 2025 is postponed

We have made the difficult decision to postpone the Grand Flag Parade to June 30, 2026, due to unforeseen health, logistical, and financial challenges and the absence of key team members.

*Rest assured that this is not the end. It is the ignition of something greater.*

The movement has only just begun and we are still set to take to the streets with our feet, our flags, our stories, and our shared dreams.

Mark it!
Save it!
Prepare for it!

This isn’t just a parade. It’s a *procession of memory, unity, and vision*

Systemic racism permeates all sectors of society, including in law enforcement and the criminal justice system,” said Keesee for the UN body.
“It is a legacy of enslavement and colonialism, whose long-lasting impacts continue to be felt today. Belgium must continue to take concrete steps towards reparatory justice by confronting the legacies of its history, with the effective participation of affected communities.”

BRUSSELS/GENEVA – The UN International Independent Expert Mechanism to Advance Racial Justice and Equality in Law Enforcement called on Belgium to take concrete steps to address the legacies of its colonial past and fight what it said was widespread, systematic racism that still permeates the nati...

AlJazeera produced an excellent recommended "Inside Story" about reparations after the last Summit of the African Union (AU) where they decided to designate 2025 as the "Year of Justice for Africans and People of African Descent Through Reparations."

"How realistic is the call of the AU?" In this Inside Story on AlJazeera Frank Gerits – Assistant professor in the History of International Relations Department at Utrecht University, and Liliane Umubyeyi – Co-founder and co-director of African Futures Action, explain. Frank Gerits is now also a member of our Advisory Board.

This program underscores the AU's commitment to addressing historical injustices, including the trans-Atlantic slave trade, (neo)colonialism, apartheid, and genocide, but also Climate Debt.

African leaders are seeking reparations from former colonial powers at a summit in Ethiopia.

Happy Africa Day 2025. An important message marking Africa Day by the President of , H.E. John Dramani Mahama, the Africa Union's Champion for reparatory justice for Africans and people of African descent.

The African Union commemorates Africa Day 2025 with a renewed call to justice, unity, and shared progress. This year’s theme, “Justice for Africans and People of African Descent through Reparations,” honors the memory of those who suffered under slavery and colonialism, while asserting the right of Africa and its diaspora to truth, justice, and restoration. “While justice and reparations remain long overdue, Africa will not be held hostage by the pain of its past”

CARICOM Ambassador ~ For Mother Earth meeting in Brussels. Yesterday we had the pleasure to be received by the H.E. the Ambassador Colin Connely & Colin James (Head of Chancery) at the Embassy of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago. The Ambassador Connelly represents the CARICOM in Brussels, the EU hq.

The delegation of For Mother Earth were Advisory Board members Eunique Pierre Van Doorsselaere (Haiti/B) & Francine Matondo (DRC/B) and Pol DHuyvetter.

It was a very cordial and warm reception from Ambassador Connelly, and we had a very constructive conversation how to cooperate with CARICOM towards the issue of Reparations, especially by echoing the repeated trailblazing calls by the CARICOM in the west, as most people remain ignorant about the important work by the CARICOM Reparations Commission

Ambassador Colin Connelly had been a panel member at the Black History Month event in Ghent marking the "UN Day of Remembrance of Slavery and the Transatlantic Slave Trade" on March 25th, where he had explained the “10 Point Plan for Reparations” of the CARICOM.

We invite everybody to read the 10 Point Plan for Reparations from the CARICOM, as too many still believe that reparations are limited to financial compensation. Reparations are a lot more, such as a formal apology, Psychological & emotional healing from inter-generational trauma, ... or foreign debt cancellation. Here are the ten point, but please take time to click the URL below

1. FULL FORMAL APOLOGY
2. Indigenous Peoples Development Programmes
3. Funding for Repatriation to Africa
4. The Establishment of Cultural Institutions and the Return of Cultural Heritage
5. Assistance in Remedying the Public Health Crisis
6. Education Programmes
7. The Enhancement of Historical and Cultural Knowledge Exchanges
8. Psychological Rehabilitation as a Result of the Transmission of Trauma
9. The Right to Development through the Use of Technology
10. Debt Cancellation and Monetary Compensation
