Our frontline warriors 🌱🤿🥷 Without our local partners, those with their feet in the mud and faces in the masks, marine restoration would not be possible.

These pictures just reached us straight from the field in Scotland, where seagrass meadows are restored by our partner Seawilding!

All the seagrass for this season is planted (half a hectare!) - now we’re taking the time to monitor the sites well, draw up the results, and prepare for 2027.

Our coral reef is now the size of 1.5 tennis courts 🎾🪸

New restoration structures with coral fragments to our reef in Nusa Penida, Bali — bringing the site to 1,033 structures, covering around 350 square meters of seabed!

But the real win? Coral is starting to grow there on its own. 🌱

That’s what restoration is really about: not just planting coral, but building a reef that can look after itself.

Most people don’t know that the North Sea once had vast stretches of oyster reefs. They disappeared over the last century due to human pressures. What used to filter water, shelter fish, and buffer the coast is now, in most places, 𝐣𝐮𝐬𝐭 𝐬𝐚𝐧𝐝.

Here’s why that matters more than it sounds: 𝐨𝐲𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐬 𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐞𝐜𝐨𝐬𝐲𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐦 𝐞𝐧𝐠𝐢𝐧𝐞𝐞𝐫𝐬. Restoring a reef doesn’t just bring back oysters, but also the foundation hundreds of other species depend on. Richer biodiversity, cleaner water, more resilient coastlines, healthier fisheries — all from one species doing its job again.

BELREEFS is rebuilding it, oyster by oyster since 2025. And because our Go Ocean pioneers stepped in, the 2026 installation is 2.5x bigger than initially planned!

Sharks keep entire ecosystems in balance — but they need us watching, counting, protecting. Monitoring and data are the only thing standing between sharks and extinction.

We visited Stichting Zeeschelp, the hatchery growing the baby oysters that we are releasing in the Belgian North Sea 🦪🦪🦪

The goal? Restore the European Flat Oyster reefs that were once so abundant, but have disappeared almost completely from our waters!
