Créée par Jean Capart en souvenir de la visite que la Reine Élisabeth fit au tombeau de Toutankhamon, le 18 février 1923, l'Association (anc. Fondation) Égyptologique Reine Élisabeth s'est donné pour mission de favoriser le développement, en Belgique, des études égyptologiques et papyrologiques. Au fil des années, elle est devenue une institution scientifique, dont les principaux champs d'intérêt
sont l'histoire et la civilisation de l'Égypte pharaonique, gréco-romaine, chrétienne et arabe. L'Association a son siège au Parc du Cinquantenaire de Bruxelles, où elle est hébergée par les Musées Royaux d'Art et d'Histoire. L’AERE bénéficie du soutien de la Fédération Wallonie-Bruxelles, du Fonds de la Recherche Scientifique – FNRS et de la Fondation Universitaire

Het Egyptologisch Genootschap (voorheen: Stichting) Koningin Elisabeth werd opgericht door Jean Capart naar aanleiding van het bezoek van Koningin Elisabeth aan het graf van Toetanchamon, op 18 februari 1923 (zie foto), en met het doel het egyptologisch en papyrologisch onderzoek in België te bevorderen. In de loop der jaren is het Genootschap uitgegroeid tot een wetenschappelijke instelling die zich verdiept in de studie van de geschiedenis en de beschaving van faraonisch, Grieks-Romeins, christelijk en Arabisch Egypte. De zetel van het Genootschap is gevestigd in de Koninklijke Musea voor Kunst en Geschiedenis, Jubelpark, te Brussel. Het EGKE wordt gesteund door de Fédération Wallonie-Bruxelles, het Fonds de la Recherche Scientifique - FNRS en de Universitaire Stichting.

The Association (formerly Fondation) Égyptologique Reine Élisabeth was founded by Jean Capart in memory of Queen Élisabeth's visit to the tomb of Tutankhamun, on February 18, 1923. Its main purpose was to stimulate Egyptological and papyrological research in Belgium. Over the years the Association has become a scholarly institution that promotes the study of the history and civilisation of Pharaonic, Graeco-Roman, Christian and Arabic Egypt. The premises of the Association are located at the Musées Royaux d'Art et d'Histoire. The AERE is supported by the Fédération Wallonie-Bruxelles, the Fonds de la Recherche Scientifique - FNRS and the Fondation Universitaire / Universitaire Stichting.
