We had a productive and insightful discussion during ENSLT Forum Hub #3, focusing on the future of ENSLT's membership categories.

A sincere thank you to all European Network of Sign Language Teachers (ENSLT) members and Board members who joined the discussion and shared their ideas. Together, we explored how ENSLT can continue to grow and better support the sign language teaching community, including potential membership opportunities for national sign language associations, educational institutions, companies, and other organisations.

The ENSLT Board will now review the feedback, consider possible revisions, and prepare proposals for the ENSLT Triennial General Assembly, which will take place in Portugal in November 2026.

An online questionnaire will be launched soon to gather further views from former members, current members, and the wider sign language teaching community. Your feedback will play an important role in helping shape the future direction of ENSLT.

Thank you once again to everyone who gave their time and valuable contributions this evening. We look forward to continuing these important conversations at ENSLT Forum Hub #4.

Sunday 14th June 2026

A big thank you to Tayside Deaf Hub (Dundee), Canton Core Company, and BSL trainer Clare Canton for inviting me to give a talk about my current role as President of The European Network of Sign Language Teachers (ENSLT) and my journey into sign language teaching and assessment.

I shared how an unplanned path led me to become a Sign Language teacher and assessor, and how my involvement grew from local, regional, and national levels to becoming a member and now President of ENSLT.

The enthusiastic group of participants included new beginners, experienced teachers, and retired Sign Language teachers from across Scotland. They attended the two training weeks in June and July, organised by Tayside Deaf Hub in partnership with Canton Core Company.

It was inspiring to see so much enthusiasm and commitment. Participants asked thoughtful and important questions about teacher training courses in Scotland and across the United Kingdom.

The event provided a valuable opportunity to meet, network, and exchange experiences. It was encouraging to see participants supporting one another, boosting confidence, and becoming role models for future generations of Sign Language teachers. I hope this experience inspires their continuing professional development (CPD) and encourages them to build connections across Scotland, the United Kingdom, Europe, and the wider world.
