At CALLS Network, we’re amplifying their initiatives and contributing to challenging stereotypes of refugees as victims and recipients of aid.
We showcase refugees as leaders, organizers and changemakers in their communities.

🇲🇷 In Mbera Camp, Mauritania, SOS Nomade marked the Day of the African Child through awareness sessions on safe drinking water, alongside creative art and painting activities for children. Led by refugee communities, these initiatives create a space for learning and collective action.

🇹🇩 In Adré Refugee Camp, refugee leaders came together ahead of World Refugee Day 2026 to discuss key advocacy priorities: access to education, protection, resettlement opportunities, and peace in Sudan. Meanwhile, the Women and Girls Safe Space Initiative facilitated psychosocial support sessions to help address trauma, reduce stigma, and strengthen the wellbeing of women and girls in the community.

🇧🇩 In Cox’s Bazar, Rohingya Self-Help Groups across multiple camps have begun preparations for World Refugee Day 2026. With support from ActionAid Bangladesh, refugee volunteers are leading the process—from designing banners and posters to mobilising communities and raising awareness ahead of the day.

Refugees with disabilities are also leaders, advocates, and changemakers in their communities. The Global Network of Refugees with Disabilities (GNRD) and its member organizations around the world highlight these strengths every day.

GNRD, CALLS Network partner organization, is hosting a webinar on the occasion of World Refugee Day.

Join them to hear about what organizations led by refugees with disability are achieving and what the inclusion of refugees with disabilities in host societies and humanitarian action entails.

In Ethiopia🇪🇹 , Ethio Friends Foundation for Refugees (EFFR) is doing just that—supporting refugee communities through education, protection, MHPSS, youth empowerment, advocacy, as well as well innovative e-commerce for livelihoods.

Proof that refugee-led organizations are still standing, responding to the needs of their communities - and innovating! - despite the humanitarian aid crisis.

From classrooms to emergency response lines.

SVO operates across 19 refugee camps in Eastern Chad, supporting refugee and host communities through education, health, MHPSS, peacebuilding, livelihoods & food security, protection, and WASH Sudan Volunteer organization- SVO

In Darfur, Sudan, their teams are on the frontlines delivering emergency response, protection, and anticipatory action to communities affected by conflict and displacement.
