This week we're introducing the first in a new series: 𝐏𝐚𝐫𝐭𝐧𝐞𝐫 𝐒𝐩𝐨𝐭𝐥𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭𝐬, profiling the 𝐫𝐞𝐟𝐮𝐠𝐞𝐞-𝐥𝐞𝐝 𝐨𝐫𝐠𝐚𝐧𝐢𝐬𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬 CALLS Network works alongside.

𝐖𝐨𝐦𝐞𝐧 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐆𝐢𝐫𝐥𝐬 𝐒𝐚𝐟𝐞 𝐒𝐩𝐚𝐜𝐞 𝐈𝐧𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐞 (𝐖𝐆𝐒𝐒𝐈) was founded by Sudanese refugee women, for Sudanese refugees, in the Adre and Dougui camps of 𝐄𝐚𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐧 𝐂𝐡𝐚𝐝.

What began as household visits in a displacement camp in 2023 is now a safe space reaching over 3,150 women and girls, built around four pillars: 𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐭𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧, 𝐥𝐢𝐯𝐞𝐥𝐢𝐡𝐨𝐨𝐝𝐬, 𝐡𝐞𝐚𝐥𝐭𝐡, 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐥𝐞𝐠𝐚𝐥 𝐚𝐝𝐯𝐨𝐜𝐚𝐜𝐲.

𝐒𝐭𝐚𝐧𝐝𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡 𝐑𝐨𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐠𝐲𝐚 𝐫𝐞𝐟𝐮𝐠𝐞𝐞-𝐥𝐞𝐝 𝐞𝐦𝐞𝐫𝐠𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐲 𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐩𝐨𝐧𝐬𝐞 𝐢𝐧 𝐂𝐨𝐱’𝐬 𝐁𝐚𝐳𝐚𝐫 𝐑𝐞𝐟𝐮𝐠𝐞𝐞 𝐂𝐚𝐦𝐩𝐬, 𝐁𝐚𝐧𝐠𝐥𝐚𝐝𝐞𝐬𝐡.

The recent floods and landslides in Cox’s Bazar Refugee Camps have left hundreds of families in urgent need. Our partner, Rohingy Women Association for Education and Development-RWAED, has swiftly mobilised its team to respond to this crisis.

Based on rapid needs assessments, RWAED is prioritizing support for 250 households affected by the disaster. Emergency relief, including dry food, clean drinking water, hygiene kits, clothes, mats, mosquito nets, and other essentials, is being distributed thanks to community solidarity and support from the diaspora.

As a community-based organization, RWAED is among the first responders on the ground. Yet, their resources are stretched thin. This model of emergency funding, while vital, is not sustainable in the long term. Refugee-Led Organisations (RLOs) like RWAED need multi-year, flexible support, including core costs, to ensure they can continue saving lives and rebuilding communities.

Now is the time to stand with RWAED and other RLOs. Donors, partners, and allies: your support can make a lasting difference.

At least 18 Rohingya refugees have lost their lives following a series of devastating monsoon-triggered landslides and flash floods that struck the overcrowded refugee camps in Cox's Bazar, Bangladesh.

𝐑𝐞𝐟𝐮𝐠𝐞𝐞 𝐯𝐨𝐥𝐮𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐞𝐫𝐬 𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐟𝐢𝐫𝐬𝐭 𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐩𝐨𝐧𝐝𝐞𝐫𝐬 in such tragic events, with their unique knowledge of the locations and affected communities, as well as their rescuing skills developed over the years.

New research from our partner Frontliners for Change on Syrian refugee return from Lebanon.

FFC surveyed 200 refugees and ran 20 focus groups in the Bekaa Valley. 95% say housing is non-negotiable. But housing alone isn't enough — employment, safety, services, and psychosocial support all shape whether return is actually viable.

This is what field-embedded research looks like: evidence built from families FFC serves and alongside they work.

On the occasion of World Refugee Day, Frontliners for Change (FFC) organized a session for Syrian refugee women in Lebanon focused on self-expression, confidence, and resilience.

Through interactive activities and shared reflections, participants celebrated their strengths, supported one another, and strengthened their sense of community and hope.

Today, we feature the African Rising Women-led Network (ARWNET), a network of refugee women-led organisations across 25 countries championing gender equity and amplifying the voices of displaced women and girls.

Because refugees are not passive recipients of aid—they are leaders and changemakers.

🇲🇷 In Mbera Camp, Mauritania, SOS Nomade marked the Day of the African Child through awareness sessions on safe drinking water, alongside creative art and painting activities for children. Led by refugee communities, these initiatives create a space for learning and collective action.

🇹🇩 In Adré Refugee Camp, refugee leaders came together ahead of World Refugee Day 2026 to discuss key advocacy priorities: access to education, protection, resettlement opportunities, and peace in Sudan. Meanwhile, the Women and Girls Safe Space Initiative facilitated psychosocial support sessions to help address trauma, reduce stigma, and strengthen the wellbeing of women and girls in the community.

🇧🇩 In Cox’s Bazar, Rohingya Self-Help Groups across multiple camps have begun preparations for World Refugee Day 2026. With support from ActionAid Bangladesh, refugee volunteers are leading the process—from designing banners and posters to mobilising communities and raising awareness ahead of the day.

Refugees with disabilities are also leaders, advocates, and changemakers in their communities. The Global Network of Refugees with Disabilities (GNRD) and its member organizations around the world highlight these strengths every day.

GNRD, CALLS Network partner organization, is hosting a webinar on the occasion of World Refugee Day.
