Budapest Pride is happening. Legally. ๐ŸŒˆ

As Viktor Orban tried to ban it last year, the Hungarian police now have approved Budapest Pride without objections. This is an important signal that Hungary may be turning a page after years of attacks on the rights of LGBTIQ+ people.

But approval of Pride is only the first step.

Last month, the Court of Justice of the European Union ruled that Hungaryโ€™s anti-LGBTIQ+ propaganda law violates EU law and the fundamental values on which the European Union is built. The new Hungarian government must now move swiftly to implement the judgment and fully dismantle this discriminatory legislation.

Pride is back. Now itโ€™s time to restore equal rights and democracy.

Behind every anti-LGBTIQ+ law and every wave of hate are real people paying the price.

In our latest episode of Beyond Q***r Politics, Giorgi Tabagari and Tamar Jakeli of Tbilisi Pride speak about the reality in Georgia โ€” from personal attacks and intimidation to the broader fight for democracy and human rights.

IDAHOBIT 2026 is a wake-up call.

Across Europe, LGBTIQ+ people have got their rights recognized before the EU Court of Justice.

But too many Member States still refuse to fully implement those rulings.

That is not only an LGBTIQ+ rights issue.
It is a rule of law crisis.

Court victories mean nothing if governments can ignore them.

European Commission: enforce the rulings.

We dismantled Hungaryโ€™s anti-LGBTIQ+ law!

This is more than a political announcement. It is proof that our strategic action works.

When governments attack LGBTIQ+ people, they are testing how far they can go in undermining democracy itself. Hungaryโ€™s 2021 law did exactly that.

But this time, they were challenged. By us. In the media. In EU institutions. In court. Across borders.

And now, after a historic ruling by the EU Court of Justice, Hungaryโ€™s new government has confirmed it will repeal the law.

For everyone who was told this fight was too big, too legal, too political, too impossible: it wasnโ€™t.

We did not wait for history to happen.

We made it happen.

Hungaryโ€™s pro-Orban, pro-Russian propaganda media are spreading lies about us.

Letโ€™s be clear:โ€จโŒ We have never met Pรฉter Magyarโ€จโŒ We have never worked with his party
So why the attacks?

Because weโ€™re not just talking about the problem โ€”โ€จweโ€™re fighting it.

โš–๏ธ We helped drive the largest EU lawsuit in historyโ€จ๐Ÿ›๏ธ We pushed the Court to define EU core values for the first time
๐ŸŒ We challenge anti-LGBTIQ+ laws across Europe
That makes us inconvenient.
๐Ÿคš We are not just another โ€œBrussels organization admiring the problemโ€
โ€จThat makes us a target.

If they try to discredit us, it means one thing:โ€จour work matters.

Stand with us. ๐Ÿ’œโ€จSupport the fight.

This week, the EUโ€™s highest court ruled on Hungaryโ€™s anti-LGBTIQ+ law.
And this moment didnโ€™t happen by chance.

For 5 years, Forbidden Colours + Reclaim drove the strategy behind this case:
โš–๏ธ Built the largest coalition in EU legal history (16 Member States + EP)
๐Ÿ“ข Pushed governments to act
๐Ÿ“š Put Article 2 TEU at the center

And it worked.

For the first time ever, the Court recognised a stand-alone violation of EU values (Article 2).

This ruling goes far beyond Hungary.
๐ŸŒ It protects 451 million EU citizens
โœจ It sets a global standard for democracy

This is what winning looks like.
And weโ€™re just getting started.

In its landmark Cupriak-Trojan & Trojan judgment, the Court of Justice ruled that all Member States must recognise same-sex marriages concluded elsewhere in the EU when citizens exercise their freedom of movement. No exceptions. No borders for love.

The new LGBTIQ+ Equality Strategy says the right things โ€” but not enough to match todayโ€™s reality.
While bans, censorship, and intimidation spread across Europe, the Commission still relies on soft coordination instead of real enforcement.

We welcome the words โ€” the recognition of our rights, of the right to peaceful assembly, and of the dangers of anti-gender narratives. But rights without action are just promises.

Itโ€™s time for the Commission to find the courage to act as the Guardian of the Treaties, to use its legal tools, tie EU money to respect for rights, and fund projects that protect democracy and LGBTIQ+ people.

Strong words must become strong protection.

๐Ÿšจ SECOND PRIDE BANNED IN THE EU IN 2025 ๐Ÿšจ
After Budapest Pride was banned last month, the Romanian city of Oradea has now also banned its local Pride March โ€” despite full legal compliance by the organisers.

๐Ÿ›‘ The European Commissionโ€™s silence after Hungaryโ€™s Pride ban set a dangerous precedent. Now, Romania follows.

โœŠ Our Executive Director .bonny will travel to Oradea to join the protest and stand with the brave LGBTIQ+ community demanding visibility, freedom, and democracy.

๐Ÿ’ฌ โ€œPride bans are not isolated events โ€” they are stress tests for European democracy.โ€ โ€“ Rรฉmy Bonny

๐Ÿ“ข 200,000+ people marched for Pride in Budapest.
They defied a ban. They risked fines.
They stood up for democracy, freedom of assembly, and LGBTIQ+ rights.

It was a historic act of courage. But letโ€™s be clear:
๐Ÿ‘‰ The law banning Pride is still in place.
๐Ÿ‘‰ No legal protection has been granted.
๐Ÿ‘‰ The European Commission still refuses to act.

They have the mandate.
They have the duty.
They have the tools.

๐Ÿ”ด 200,000+ people did their job.
Now itโ€™s s turn.

We donโ€™t need more pinkwashing.
We need legal action. Now.
