The association La Table Ronde de l’Architecture, which trains young people in traditional architecture, is delighted to invite you to its Open House on July 19.

On the program: festivities, live music, opportunities to meet our community, and presentations of the projects for the future School of Architecture & Crafts in Westhoffen.

You will have the chance to meet our students from all over the world, our members and volunteers, as well as the founders of La Table Ronde de l’Architecture. Representatives of the International Network for Traditional Building, Architecture & Urbanism (INTBAU), Association for the Preservation of the Alsatian House, Association for the History of Westhoffen and Its Surroundings and many others - some traveling from far away, others simply those who bring life to the village of Westhoffen - will also be present.

L’association La Table Ronde de l’Architecture, qui forme des jeunes aux métiers de l’architecture traditionnelle, a le plaisir de vous inviter à sa journée Portes ouvertes le 19 juillet.

Au programme : festivités, musique live, rencontres avec notre communauté, et présentations des projets pour la future École d’Architecture & des Métiers à Westhoffen.

Vous aurez l’occasion de rencontrer nos étudiants venus du monde entier, nos membres et bénévoles, ainsi que les fondateurs de La Table Ronde de l’Architecture. Des représentants du Réseau international pour la construction, l’architecture et l’urbanisme traditionnels (INTBAU), de l’Association pour la Sauvegarde de la Maison Alsacienne, de l’Association d’Histoire de Westhoffen et et de ses Environs, et bien d’autres — certains venus de loin, d’autres acteurs de la vie du village de Westhoffen — seront également présents.

"Le vieux monde, c’est celui du néolibéralisme hérité de la Guerre Froide. Il succède au stato-capitalisme du milieu du 20ème siècle qui avait vu l’État s’ingérer largement dans l’économie, et qui avait donné naissance aux derniers grands « styles nationaux » comme le néo-classicisme stalinien, le futurisme italien, le gigantisme des œuvres de Speer ou encore l’américanisme du Plan Marshall. This summer, pink sandstone of the Vosges (Alsace) will be a central material in the program. Our students will explore its properties as well as the different ways it can be implemented in a real project: masonry of solid walls, construction of staircases, door and window surrounds, corbels, inscriptions, and many other architectural elements.

They will carry out hand-drawn surveys of various stone elements found on local buildings, in order to better understand this material and learn to use it in a reasoned way in their future projects.

On July 13, they will visit the Loegel pink sandstone quarry in Rothbach, an exceptional extraction site that will allow them to discover the inner workings of this noble material. The various study visits and workshops will also be an opportunity to meet several stonemasons and exchange ideas about this ancestral craft.

The students participating in the stonemasonry studios, supervised by Richard Thomas and assisted by Laura Jeary, will design a pink sandstone staircase, corbels, and other architectural elements. These pieces will be directly integrated into the project of transforming the TRA farmhouse into a school.

These workshops represent a unique opportunity for students to take part in a real project intended to last for generations.
