Today, during the Wereldfeest Leuven โ an event that claims to champion solidarity and a โbetter worldโโwe were deeply shocked and outraged by the presence of the Israeli flag displayed at one of the main festival stages.
While the festival featured segments dedicated to solidarity with Palestine, allowing the symbol of an apartheid state currently accused of genocide to occupy the very same space is a profound insult to the victims of this ongoing violence. It represents a deeply painful contradiction that we cannot ignore.
Because of this unacceptable display, the Palestinian poet F.A., a prominent member of the Palestinian community in Antwerp, took a courageous and principled stance, rightfully refusing to take part in the eventโs programming until the flag was completely removed. We express our utmost respect and full solidarity with F.A. for her unwavering refusal to participate in any form of normalization or visual balancing between the oppressor and the oppressed.
We unequivocally condemn this incident and the oversight by the festivalโs management. An event for global solidarity must never provide a platform, under any pretext of โneutralityโ, to the symbols of occupation and oppression.

True solidarity cannot be compromised, and we will not accept the normalization of oppression under the guise of cultural diversity. We expect accountability, not silence.
