Internet for Education: Safety Awareness Workshop for High School Students

A day-long workshop titled “Internet for Education SIG Safety Awareness Workshop for High School Students” was organized by the Institute of Development Affairs (IDEA) in collaboration with the Internet Society on 3rd November 2025 at a Hotel Metro International in Sylhet city.

A.S.M. Abdul Wadud, District Education Officer, Sylhet, graced the event as the Chief Guest, while Tofail Ahmed Chowdhury, Assistant Programmer, District Education Office, and Khaled Ahmed, Sylhet Correspondent of Desh TV, attended as Special Guests.

A total of 50 students and 3 teachers from Sylhet Government Agragami Girls’ High School and College, Syed Hatim Ali High School, and Shahjalal Upashahar High School participated in the workshop. The participating teachers were Rezaul Karim, Senior Teacher, Agragami Girls’ High School and College; Md. Kajal Mia, Senior Teacher, Shahjalal Upashahar High School; and Md. Musa Mia, Assistant Teacher, Syed Hatim Ali High School.

The main objective of the workshop was to raise awareness among secondary school students about the safe and effective use of the Internet for education and personal development.

In his remarks, Chief Guest A.S.M. Abdul Wadud encouraged students to use the Internet as a tool for learning and skill development, emphasizing its importance in today’s competitive world. He also urged teachers to guide students on using online resources productively. Tofayel Ahmed highlighted that students can enhance their foreign language proficiency and broaden their knowledge through responsible Internet use.

The workshop was facilitated by Sammy Haque, Assistant Director of IDEA, along with Tamanna Ahmed, Project Coordinator, and Nazim Ahmed, Director (Program), IDEA.
