Bangladesh and the global situation (2025-2026) In recent times, there have been major incidents of such invisible data leaks around the world, including Bangladesh: 16 billion password leaks (June 2025): Cyber security researchers recently identified a huge list of 16 billion (16 billion) passwords that have spread across the dark web. This is the largest password leak in history. Among them, there is a strong possibility of having the information of billions of users in Bangladesh. These passwords are mainly collected through various malware and old hacks, which users never knew about. Bangladesh A-Opostil and NID Data Leak: In late 2025, Bangladesh's e-Opostil (e-Apostille) site was hacked and passports, NIDs and educational qualification information of 1,100+ citizens were leaked. Government sources have admitted that "quot millions of citizens' data is currently circulating on the dark web". Earlier in 2023, 50 million immunization data and police data were also leaked, which is still the key to hacking passwords for hackers today. Caution: Experts say cyber security systems in Bangladesh are essentially "reactive" or try to solve problems when they are "proactive", or have poor pre-emptive prevention systems. As a result, hackers easily steal data from weak systems and escape silently.
