On 29 July 2026, Commercial Bank of Ceylon made a generous donation to the Bangladesh Red Crescent Society (BDRCS) in support of the ongoing Flood Response Operations 2026, reaffirming its commitment to standing with communities affected by the devastating floods.

The donation cheque was officially handed over at the Commercial Bank of Ceylon Head Office in Dhaka. Representing Commercial Bank of Ceylon were Mr. Tivanka Damunupola, CEO, Mr. Shakir Khusru, Senior AGM & Head of Internal Control & Compliance, and Ms. Urmi Irani Khan, Head of Sustainability & Women Banking.

Representing BDRCS were Dr. Shahana Zafor, Director - Blood Program, Mr. Nasir Uddin Majumder, Resource Mobilization Manager, and Md. Towfiqul Islam Sikder, Officer - Communication & Digital Fundraising.

Later, the donation cheque was formally handed over to Dr. Abu Md. Mofakhkharul Islam, Treasurer of the Bangladesh Red Crescent Society, at the BDRCS National Headquarters.

The Bangladesh Red Crescent Society sincerely thanks Commercial Bank of Ceylon for its generous support and solidarity. This valuable contribution will help strengthen ongoing humanitarian efforts to provide emergency relief and assistance to flood-affected families across Bangladesh.

The Embassy of the People's Republic of China in Bangladesh has contributed USD 100,000 to the Bangladesh Red Crescent Society (BDRCS) to strengthen emergency relief efforts for communities affected by the recent floods and landslides.

The contribution was officially handed over by H.E. Mr. Yao Wen, Ambassador of the People's Republic of China to Bangladesh, to Barrister Md. Abdus Salam, Chairman of BDRCS, at the BDRCS National Headquarters in Dhaka.

Speaking at the ceremony, Ambassador Yao Wen expressed the solidarity of the Chinese Government and people with the people of Bangladesh, noting that the contribution reflects China's continued commitment to supporting disaster response, strengthening preparedness, and building the capacity of Red Crescent volunteers.

Receiving the contribution, Barrister Md. Abdus Salam thanked the Government and people of China and the Red Cross Society of China for their timely humanitarian support. He said the funding will help BDRCS provide emergency food assistance, safe drinking water, temporary shelter, hygiene kits, and essential medical services to flood and landslide-affected communities.

During the programme, BDRCS shared an update on its emergency response as of 21 July, highlighting:
• BDT 3.39 million allocated for emergency operations
• 2,500+ emergency food packages distributed
• 22,000+ people evacuated and rescued
• 2,000+ people reached with medical assistance
• 37,000+ litres of safe drinking water distributed
• 12 Red Crescent Units engaged in the response
• 3,500+ volunteers mobilized across affected communities

BDRCS sincerely appreciates the continued friendship, solidarity, and humanitarian support of the Government and people of the People's Republic of China and the Red Cross Society of China as we work together to support communities affected by floods and landslides.
