In Goriarpara village of Bogura, Shamima Begum is turning waste into opportunity—growing an organic fertilizer enterprise while opening doors for women around her. With support from the SMART project, she adopted Resource-Efficient and Cleaner Production (RECP) practices to expand production and strengthen her market position.
Before, Shamima and five workers could manually process only 600–650 kg a day, limiting sales and pushing buyers away. With a compost crushing machine, training, market linkages, and a sales license from the Department of Agricultural Marketing, her enterprise took off. The new machine now processes 3.5 tonnes in just 4 hours, helping her supply a steady 13–14 tonnes every 40–45 days—and increasing her net income.
Shamima now employs 8 workers and has trained 16 neighboring women to start small compost units creating a local network where women earn, invest in their families, and power a greener rural economy. Because when women gain access to skills, markets, and capital, they don’t just build businesses—they create jobs and drive resilient growth.
