📅 June 12 is the World Day Against Child Labour
Right now, 160 million children around the world are working instead of learning. In Bangladesh alone, over 1.2 million children are trapped in factories, brick kilns, and domestic work . Robbed of their childhood, education, and future.
🌏In South Asia, child labor remains one of the most urgent human rights crises. Poverty, lack of access to education, and weak enforcement keep millions of children locked in dangerous conditions every single day.
🇧🇩 Bangladesh Reality Check
Hazardous child labor declined from 3.2% in 2013 to 2.7% in 2022. But the overall child labor rate slightly increased from 8.7% to 8.9% in the same period.
🔹 Bangladesh ratified ILO Convention No. 138 in March 2022, expanding the hazardous work list to 43 sectors including brick kilns, waste management, and informal garment work .
🔹 The ILO's 4th Phase initiative (completed June 2024) removed 100,000 children from hazardous work, providing education, skill training, and monthly stipends via mobile banking
🔹 A national helpline (16357) remains active for reporting child labor violations
Every classroom filled is a factory emptied.
