Biotechnology Club Committee Handover Ceremony 2025

The official handover ceremony of the Biotechnology Club was held on 29 August 2025, in the presence of our Honourable Vice Chancellor of German University Bangladesh, Professor Dr. Sanjoy Kumar Adhikary, Head of Department of Biotechnology, Shahana Chowdhury, faculty member Dr. Md. Mohibul Alam Khan, Sabbir Ahmed, and students. The event marked a smooth transition of leadership and celebrated the efforts of both outgoing and incoming committee members.

The Biotech Club of Germany University Bangladesh (GUB) organized a seminar on 27 February 2025 in observance of World Cancer Day 2025.

Mr. Md. Toufic Hasan, 1st Batch student, Department of Biotechnology, delivered a presentation titled “Understanding Cancer: A Journey Through Diagnosis and Treatment”. He particularly emphasized various techniques available for cancer diagnosis and several options currently available for treating cancer patients.

Prof. Dr. S. M. Iqbal Hossain, Vice-Chancellor (Acting), attended the program as the Chief Guest. Prof. Dr. Md. Shahjahan, Dean, Faculty of Bio & Health Sciences, Mr. Md. Saiful Islam, Associate Prof. & Dean, Faculty of Business Studies, and Prof. Dr. Md. Mustafa Kamal, Registrar, were present as the Special Guests. Dr. Md. Mohibul Alam Khan, Assistant Prof. & Head, Department of Biotechnology, presided over the program and Mr. Md. Sakib Hasan, 8th Batch student, Department of Biotechnology, hosted the event.

GUB Biotech Warriors beat GUB Public Health Thunders by 7 runs in a thrilling conclusion to a friendly cricket match held on 24 January 2025 in Bangladesh Nature Study Park, Narshingdi during the Annual Study Tour-2025, organized by German University Bangladesh.

The Biotech Club of German University Bangladesh (GUB) organized a seminar on 21st of November to celebrate World Antimicrobial Resistance Awareness Week (WAAW) 2024.

Prof. Dr. S. M. Iqbal Hossain, Vice-Chancellor (Acting), GUB attended the program as the Chief Guest. Prof. Dr. Md. Shahjahan, Dean, Faculty of Bio & Health Sciences, Mr. Md. Saiful Islam, Associate Prof. and Dean, Faculty of Business Studies and Dr. Md. Monoarul Haque, Associate Prof. and Dean, Faculty of Health Sciences were present as Special Guests.

Mr. Md. Abdullah Al Noman, 1st Batch student of the Department of Biotechnology delivered a presentation on “The Global Threat of Antibiotic Resistance: Challenges and Solutions”. The honorable chief guest handed over the Best Oral Presentation Award to Mr. Md. Abdullah Al Noman for his presentation in the 1st Oral Presentation Competition 2024, organized by the GUB Biotech Club. Mr. Md. Rohul Amin, 6th Batch student of the Department of Biotechnology received a certificate for participating in the competition.

Dr. Md. Mohibul Alam Khan, Assistant Prof. and Head, Department of Biotechnology presided over the program and Mr. Sabbir Ahmed, Lecturer, Department of Biotechnology hosted the program.

Immune System Simplified: Our Body’s Defense Mechanism

➡️ The immune system is a complex network protecting us from infections and diseases.

🔷 Innate immunity: The first line of defense, including physical barriers like skin and mucous, and cells like macrophages and neutrophils. It involves immediate, non-specific responses like inflammation and phagocytosis.

🔷 Adaptive immunity: A specialized response involving B-cells (humoral immunity) and T-cells (cell-mediated immunity). B-cells produce antibodies, while T-cells help in targeted attacks on infected cells. This system includes active immunity (from vaccinations or infection) and passive immunity (such as antibodies from breast milk).

🔷 Antibody types: Different antibodies (IgM, IgD, IgG, IgA, IgE) play distinct roles, from initial immune responses to fighting specific pathogens.

The GUB Biotech Club Executive Committee (2024-25) has been announced on 27 September 2024. Dr. Md. Mohibul Alam Khan, Assistant Professor & Head of the Department of Biotechnology, German University Bangladesh (GUB) declared the names of the 11-member Executive Committee of the club on the ground floor of the GUB main building. Md. Abdullah Al Noman was elected as the President while Md. Mahmudur Rahman was elected to the post of General Secretary of the club. Prof. Dr.-Ing. Saifullah Khandker, Honorable Founder Chairman of GUBT, Md. Saiful Islam, Dean of the Faculty of Business Studies, GUB and Dr. Md. Monoarul Haque, Dean of the Faculty of Health Sciences, GUB congratulated all the committee members. The program was hosted by Sabbir Ahmed, Lecturer, Department of Biotechnology, GUB.
