Sky Watchers' Association, Kolkata our new email ID - [email protected] SWA opposes the hijacking of objective science by the fallacies of astrological whimsy.

To apply for membership please visit https://www.facebook.com/385904801461349/posts/4403523646366091/
Importantly, the SWA deals with astronomy, not astrology. Here members study genuine planets and satellites, stars & clusters, comets, nebulae and galaxies whose existence and functions are scientifically verifiable. SWA eschews the unfortunate, but popular practice of associating celestial bodies

with superstitious portents of ‘evil’ and ‘good’. Where we delve into ancient practices, it is to celebrate the great scientific achievements of the astronomers - sages of yore. This being the philosophy of SWA, it welcomes persons of all age- groups, professions, and abilities who are interested in the night-sky to become its members. Regardless of location, any individual interested in the observation of celestial bodies and events may collect ‘Equatorial Sky Charts’ complete with instructions from the office of SWA and may also subscribe to the monthly publication ‘Sky Watching Guide’ which are invaluable tools for amateurs and professionals alike. Observers may gradually also expand their horizons with other easily available equipment such as binoculars and telescopes.

Spending joyous times with the child patients of Tata Medical Centre and Saroj Gupta Cancer Centre and Research Unit, organised by St. Judes India Child Care Centre, an NGO that provides a " home away from home" for children undergoing cancer treatments.

It is such a pleasure to share these moments of happiness and laughter through fun learning activities of basic science and astronomy in their stressful unsettling lives of constant medication.

Most of us have a hospital phobia.
Those terrifying injections, repulsive medicines and serious looking doctors and nurses, make a hospital, an even more ‘difficult to love places’. The uncertainties regarding our health conditions, what will the reports say, how serious is it, how long do I have to be in a bed, etc, turns a hospital into a nightmare. Many will agree that a mere visit to one is quite repulsive.

All that changed with one visit.

Thanks to Dr Arnab Gupta and his team. He allowed us to organise a ‘Fun with Science’ session inside the paediatric ward of Saroj Gupta Cancer Centre and Research Institute, Thakurpukur.

The children admitted there had a blast by making toys and playing with them. The ward was filled with papers, string, colours, excitement and laughter. Nothing could be more satisfying than watching the children having fun with science.

A hospital visited with a purpose made all the difference.

Astronomy workshop and Sky Watching at Aarambh, a dedicated space for children aged 2.5 to young adults with diverse learning needs.

It was a wholesome experience to interact with the kids, engage in basic science activities, learning questioning and having fun together.
The workshop was followed by an observational session of the Moon and Saturn. The session concluded with their celebrations of winter vacation.

Anyone interested for volunteering in our programs are requested to connect with us!

Nothing like star watching!
