On 25 May 2026, following the devastating fire incident at Kalshi Slum in Pallabi, Dhaka, the Youth & Volunteers Department of Bangladesh Red Crescent Society (BDRCS) promptly deployed 30 trained Red Crescent Youth (RCY) volunteers from the National Headquarters to support the emergency response operation.

The deployed volunteers are actively engaged in rescue support and Emergency First Aid services, providing immediate humanitarian assistance to the affected individuals in close coordination with the relevant authorities on the ground.

As an auxiliary to the public authorities in the humanitarian field, BDRCS remains steadfast in its commitment to supporting vulnerable communities through timely and effective emergency response initiatives, guided by the principles of humanity, impartiality, and voluntary service.

We express our deepest solidarity with the affected families and reaffirm our continued commitment to humanitarian action during times of crisis.

From frontline volunteers to hospital wards, collective humanitarian action is helping protect children from measles in Bangladesh.

During a visit to Holy Family Red Crescent Medical College Hospital in Dhaka, Hans Das, Deputy Director-General of EU Civil Protection & Humanitarian Aid, and the EU Ambassador to Bangladesh witnessed how BDRCS, with International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) Disaster Response Emergency Fund (IFRC-DREF) support, is complementing the Government’s response to the measles surge.

Together with partners, Bangladesh Red Crescent Society(BDRCS) remains committed to reaching vulnerable communities with timely, lifesaving support.

গত ১৪–১৬ মে, জাহাঙ্গীরনগর বিশ্ববিদ্যালয় এ অনুষ্ঠিত হয় একটি গুরুত্বপূর্ণ মৌলিক প্রাথমিক চিকিৎসা প্রশিক্ষণ। এই প্রশিক্ষণে জাতীয় সদর দপ্তর থেকে দুইজন প্রশিক্ষক ও দুইজন স্বেচ্ছাসেবক অংশগ্রহণ করেন।

এই প্রশিক্ষণ শুধুমাত্র একটি শিক্ষামূলক কার্যক্রম ছিল না, বরং মানবতার সেবায় নিজেকে প্রস্তুত করার এক দৃঢ় অঙ্গীকার। জরুরি মুহূর্তে সঠিক সিদ্ধান্ত গ্রহণ ও দ্রুত সেবা প্রদানের দক্ষতা অর্জনের মাধ্যমে একটি মূল্যবান জীবন রক্ষা করা সম্ভব—এই বার্তাই উঠে আসে পুরো প্রশিক্ষণজুড়ে।
প্রশিক্ষণের সমাপনী অনুষ্ঠানে বিশেষ অতিথি হিসেবে উপস্থিত ছিলেন বাংলাদেশ রেড ক্রিসেন্ট সোসাইটি-এর যুব ও স্বেচ্ছাসেবক বিভাগের পরিচালক।
তাঁর অনুপ্রেরণামূলক দিকনির্দেশনা ও মূল্যবান উপস্থিতি প্রশিক্ষণটিকে করেছে আরও অর্থবহ ও অনুপ্রেরণাময়।

Bangladesh is witnessing a concerning rise in measles cases, with more than 50,000 children suspected to be affected across the country.

Joining other stakeholders in the nationwide measles response and supporting the Government’s efforts, the Bangladesh Red Crescent Society(BDRCS), with support from International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC), is contributing to mass vaccination campaigns and community awareness activities to help protect children and prevent further spread.

Across vaccination centres, more than 1,200 Red Crescent Youth (RCY) volunteers are supporting awareness activities and assisting families. To make the experience safer and more comforting for children, BDRCS and IFRC have also established around 25 child-friendly corners at vaccination centres, offering rest spaces, colourful toys, and a caring environment for children and caregivers.

The Youth and Volunteers Department of Bangladesh Red Crescent Society(BDRCS), with the support of the Global Road Safety Partnership (GRSP), International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC), successfully organized a two-day “Youth Leadership and Advocacy Workshop on Road Safety” on 13-14 May 2026 at the BDRCS National Headquarters, Dhaka.

The workshop brought together 42 youth representatives and volunteers from different organizations and educational institutions to strengthen youth leadership, advocacy skills, and knowledge on road safety issues. Through interactive sessions, group discussions, and practical exercises, participants explored road safety risk factors, the Safe System Approach, youth-led advocacy, and the need for a Comprehensive Road Safety Law (CRSL) in Bangladesh.

The initiative also marked the beginning of a Youth Coalition to engage young people in evidence-based road safety advocacy and policy influence for safer roads in Bangladesh.

At the closing session of the workshop, Dr. Kabir M. Ashraf Alam NDC, Secretary General of BDRCS; Ms. Sayma Ferdowsy, Director, Youth & Volunteers Department, BDRCS; and Ms. Sonakshi Dey, Program Coordinator, IFRC, delivered inspiring remarks encouraging young people to take an active role in road safety advocacy and leadership initiatives.

Today, Bangladesh Red Crescent Society(BDRCS) welcomed the Deputy Director-General of EU Humanitarian Aid and the European Union Ambassador to Bangladesh at Holy Family Red Crescent Medical College Hospital in Dhaka.

The visit showcased ongoing efforts to support children and families affected by measles through IFRC (International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies)-supported Disaster Response Emergency Fund (DREF) activities and broader health services provided through the hospital in support of the Government’s response efforts. Our sincere thanks to European Union humanitarian aid (EU Civil Protection & Humanitarian Aid) and other partners for contributing to the IFRC-DREF.

During the visit, the delegation:
🔸 Interacted with Red Crescent volunteers working in measles vaccination awareness campaigns

🔸 Witnessed the handover of medical equipment, consumables and supplies supporting measles treatment

🔸 Met doctors, nurses and parents of children receiving care

🔸 Distributed hygiene kits to affected families

Discussions also touched on the humanitarian situation in Cox’s Bazar camps, including ongoing measles response by BDRCS, supported by IFRC-DREF.

BDRCS remains committed to reaching vulnerable communities through the power of volunteers, partnerships and humanitarian action.

সোসাইটির যুব রেড ক্রিসেন্ট, মোহাম্মদপুর জোনের আয়োজনে জাতীয় পতাকা ও রেড ক্রিসেন্ট পতাকা উত্তোলনের মাধ্যমে দিবসটি উদযাপিত হলো । শুক্রবার সকালে মোহাম্মদপুর সরকারি উচ্চ বিদ্যালয়-এ মোহাম্মদপুর জোনের যুব সদস্য-সদস্যা ও সিনিয়র স্বেচ্ছাসেবকদের সহযোগিতায় একটি মানববন্ধন, কুইজ এবং চিত্রাঙ্কন প্রতিযোগিতা অনুষ্ঠিত হয়।
প্রতিযোগিতার উদ্বোধন করেন সিনিয়র স্বেচ্ছাসেবক জনাব জেড আই ফারুক খান। প্রতিযোগিতা শেষে বিজয়ীদের মাঝে পুরস্কার বিতরণ করেন মোহাম্মদপুর সরকারি উচ্চ বিদ্যালয়ের মাননীয় প্রধান শিক্ষক ও প্রধান অতিথি জনাব মোঃ আনোয়ার হোসেন এবং বিশেষ অতিথি হিসেবে উপস্থিত ছিলেন মোহাম্মদপুর থানা শিক্ষা অফিসার জনাব রাজু আহমেদ।
এছাড়াও অনুষ্ঠানে সিনিয়র স্বেচ্ছাসেবকগণ তাদের অভিজ্ঞতার আলোকে বর্তমান যুব সদস্যদের উদ্দেশ্যে প্রেরণামূলক বক্তব্য রাখেন।
