Women led national NGO of Bangladesh, established in 1979. BNWLA/BJMAS is a non-profit, non- political organization established in 1979 through committed efforts of some of the prominent women lawyers in Bangladesh and subsequently registered as a legal body in 1981 under the Societies Registration Act 1860 (Act XXI of 1860). VISION:
To “ensure rule of law and gender equality by accountable, transparent democratic practice of the state to respect Human Rights and Fundamental rights. MISSION:
To engage themselves with proactive individuals and institutions for establishing the rule of law and gender equality by constant advocacy, capacity building, especially for women lawyers, catering legal services, delivering comprehensive psychosocial package services, building a social safety net & ensuring good governance through democratic practices, and also addressing women & children in conflicts. GOAL:
To ensure women's and children's rights & social justice. OBJECTIVES:
1) Provide legal protection to targeted women and children;
2) Undertake advocacy on enactment, reform, and amendment of laws/policies;
3) Enhance the professionalism of members /staff and stakeholders to ensure social justice;
4) Provide comprehensive psychosocial supports and a social safety net for targeted beneficiaries;
5) Practice gender equality & good governance;

BNWLA, under its SIMS project, hosted a Press Cafe to empower 22 journalists from frontline print and electronic media on 27th July 2026 in Dhaka.

The event mobilized media personnel to actively publish/air investigative reports tackling the systemic barriers migrant workers face regarding access to justice.

Empowering our migrant workers with the justice they deserve! ⚖️

On 25-26 June 2026, BNWLA under the SIMS project hosted a vital training workshop at DERA Resort, Cox's Bazar, to standardize the BMET Arbitration process.

We were honored by the esteemed presence of the Director General and Director of BMET, the Joint Secretary of MoEWOE, and BNWLA President, Advocate Seema Zahur.

Special thanks to the DG for encouraging BNWLA to lead the way in ensuring access to justice for migrants!

২৫-২৬ জুন ২০২৬, বাংলাদেশ জাতীয় মহিলা আইনজীবি সমিতির SIMS প্রকল্পের অধীনে, BMET-এর সালিশি প্রক্রিয়াকে মানসম্মত করার লক্ষ্যে কক্সবাজারের ডেরা রিসোর্টে একটি গুরুত্বপূর্ণ প্রশিক্ষণ কর্মশালার আয়োজন করা হয়। BMET-এর মহাপরিচালক ও পরিচালক, MoEWOE-এর যুগ্ম সচিব এবং BNWLA-এর সভাপতি অ্যাডভোকেট সীমা জহুর সেখানে উপস্থিত ছিলেন।

গত ১৩ এপ্রিল ২০২৬ তারিখে BMET এর মহাপরিচালকের সম্মেলন কক্ষে, BNWLA এর SIMS প্রকল্প কর্তৃক 'BMET/DEMO’ আরবিট্রেশন বিষয়ক এসেসমেন্ট এর ফলাফল ও অর্জিত শিক্ষা' শীর্ষক একটি আলোচনা সভা অনুষ্ঠিত হয়।

BMET এর মহাপরিচালক জনাব মোঃ আবুল হাসানাত হুমায়ুন কবির প্রধান অতিথি হিসেবে অনুষ্ঠানে উপস্থিত ছিলেন।

এসেসমেন্ট এ যে সুপারিশগুলো এসেছে তার ভেতর রয়েছে BMET-এর সালিশি ব্যবস্থা শক্তিশালী করা, অভিবাসী শ্রমিকদের জন্য ন্যায়বিচার নিশ্চিত করতে দ্রুত ও তাৎক্ষণিক পদক্ষেপের লক্ষ্যে ম্যাজিস্ট্রেসির ক্ষমতা প্রদান এবং সালিশি ব্যবস্থায় নিরপেক্ষতা ও স্বচ্ছতা নিশ্চিত করার জন্য একটি পৃথক সালিশি সেল প্রতিষ্ঠা করা।

A sharing meeting on "the Assessment Results and Lessons Learnt on BMET/DEMO Arbitration" organized by SIMS, BNWLA on 13 April 2026 at DG's Conference Room, BMET, Kakrail, Dhaka.

The Director General of BMET, Mr. Md. Abul Hasanath Humayun Kabir, graced this event as the Chief Guest. Project Director-SIMS, Helvetas, Mr. Premangshu Shekhar Sarker, President-BNWLA, Advocate. Seema Zahur and other Senior officials of BMET, IOM, and SIMS Partners were present and shared their reflections at the event.

There were a few recommendations, including strengthening the arbitration mechanism of BMET, providing the power of magistracy for quick and rapid action to bring access to justice for migrant workers, and establishing a separate arbitration cell for ensuring impartiality and transparency on the arbitration mechanism.

০৮ এপ্রিল ২০২৬ তারিখে চাঁদপুরের হোটেল রেড চিলিতে গৃহকর্মীদের জন্য সরকারি আইনি সহায়তা পাওয়ার বিষয়ে জেলা লিগ্যাল এইড কমিটি এবং জেলার সংশ্লিষ্ট অংশীজনদের সঙ্গে একটি সভা অনুষ্ঠিত হয়। সভায় প্রধান অতিথি হিসেবে উপস্থিত ছিলেন প্রধান আইনি সহায়তা কর্মকর্তাসহ অন্যান্য কর্মকর্তাবৃন্দ। এছাড়াও সিমস প্যানেলভুক্ত আইনজীবী, পিবিআই, হেলভেটাস, সিসিডিএ এবং বিএনডব্লিউএলএ-এর কর্মীরাও উপস্থিত ছিলেন।

A meeting was held with DLAC and District relevant stakeholders for accessing into Government Legal Aid for the MWs on 08 April 2026 in the Hotel Red Chilli in Chandpur. The Chief legal aid officer was present as the Chief Guest while District Women Affairs Officer, Dist. Social Welfare Officer, Asstt. Directors of Dist. Employment & Manpower office and Expatriate Welfare Office, DLAC panel lawyers, SIMS panel lawyers, PBI, Helvetas, CCDA and BNWLA staff were present.

২৯শে এপ্রিল ২০২৬ তারিখে কক্সবাজারের হোটেল Beach Way-তে 'জেলা পর্যায়ের 'আইনি সহায়তা ব্যবস্থা'-র মাধ্যমে অভিবাসী শ্রমিকদের ন্যায়বিচার প্রাপ্তি' শীর্ষক একটি আলোচনা সভা অনুষ্ঠিত হয়।

হেলভেটাস সুইস ইন্টারকো-অপারেশন এবং বাংলাদেশে অবস্থিত সুইজারল্যান্ড দূতাবাসের কারিগরি সহযোগিতায় BNWLA-এর সিমস প্রকল্প (দ্বিতীয় পর্যায়) এই অনুষ্ঠানের আয়োজন করে। প্রধান অতিথি হিসেবে অনুষ্ঠানে উপস্থিত ছিলেন প্রধান জেলা আইনি সহায়তা কর্মকর্তা (সিনিয়র সিভিল জজ) জনাব অভিজিৎ চৌধুরী।

A discussion meeting on "Access to Justice of Migrant Workers through District Level Legal Aid Mechanism" was taken place at the Hotel Beach Way in Cox’s Bazar on 29th April 2026.

The event was organized by SIMS Project (phase II) of BNWLA with the technical support from Helvetas Swiss Intercooperation and the Embassy of Switzerland in Bangladesh. Mr. Avijit Chowdhury, Chief District Legal Aid Officer (Senior Civil Judge) graced the event as the Chief Guest.

১৫ই মার্চ ২০২৬ অনুষ্ঠিত হয় একটি কর্মশালা যাতে পাচারের শিকার ব্যাক্তির টেকসই পুর্নবাসনের সামাজিক ও অর্থনৈতিক ব্যয় নিরূপন শীর্ষক গবেষণার ফলাফল আলোচিত হয়।

আরও দুটো সংস্থাসহ বাংলাদেশ মহিলা আইনজীবী সমিতি (BJMAS/BNWLA) এ সকল শিশুদেরকে আশ্রয় দিয়েছে।
