We are pleased to announce that the BRAC University Economics Club will be joining us at the roundtable conference,

“Reclaiming the Republic: Revisiting Institutions, Incentives, and the Logic of Reform.”

As one of the country’s most active student-led platforms in economic thought and discourse, the Club plays the vital role of youth in shaping policy conversations. Their participation works for a growing recognition that meaningful reform requires not only institutional insight, but also the inclusion of young voices at the policymaking table.

By bringing together future economists, researchers, and change agents, this event aims to bridge generational perspectives on governance, accountability, and national renewal. We look forward to the thoughtful contributions BRAC University Economics Club will bring to this dialogue.

Mr. Abdullah is widely regarded for his work at the intersection of education, youth leadership, and market development. As a faculty member and mentor, he has played a pivotal role in shaping student discourse. His insights draw from years of academic involvement and an enduring commitment to fostering spaces where critical thought and evolving market requires question.

We are pleased to announce Saifur Sagar, activist and organizer with the Face the People network, as a featured speaker at our roundtable conference,

“Reclaiming the Republic: Revisiting Institutions, Incentives, and the Logic of Reform.”

Known for his bold advocacy on issues of enforced disappearances, extrajudicial violence, and democratic accountability, Mr. Sagar has emerged as a principled voice from Bangladesh.

His work, particularly in amplifying grassroots demands for justice and institutional transparency, reflects a deep commitment to restoring citizen dignity in the face of systemic repression.

In a political moment where the distance between state power and public voice has dangerously widened, Mr. Sagar brings a ground-level lens to our conversation. His perspective reminds us that any genuine reform must begin with listening to those most marginalized by institutional failure, and ensuring that people, not power alone, shape the republic’s future.

We are pleased to announce Dr. Nurul Huda Sakib, PhD(University of Sydney), Professor at Department of Government and Politics at Jahangirnagar University and a prominent scholar of governance, public finance, and citizen accountability, as a distinguished discussant at our roundtable conference,

“Reclaiming the Republic: Revisiting Institutions, Incentives, and the Logic of Reform.”

Widely respected for his empirical work on local government, fiscal decentralisation, and political clientelism in South Asia, Dr. Sakib bridges rigorous academic research with a deep commitment to pro-people policymaking. His studies on Union Parishad budgeting, rural service delivery, and participatory governance have shaped debates on how the state can become more responsive to its citizens—especially the poor and marginalised.

Beyond the university, Dr. Sakib regularly collaborates with international development agencies, think tanks, and grassroots organisations to advocate for transparency, and citizen voice in state institutions.

At a time when democratic backsliding, bureaucratic incentives, and rent-seeking threaten the promise of the republic, Dr. Sakib’s vision — rooted in accountability, bottom–up reform, and people-centric governance — offers a critical pathway to rebuilding the state’s legitimacy and strengthening the social contract.

We are pleased to announce Dr. Sk. Tawfique M. Haque, Professor and Director of the South Asian Institute of Policy and Governance (SIPG) at North South University, a leading political scientist and public policy expert in Bangladesh, as a distinguished discussant at our roundtable conference,

“Reclaiming the Republic: Revisiting Institutions, Incentives, and the Logic of Reform.”

An authority on local governance, political institutions, and democratic consolidation, Dr. Haque has spent over two decades teaching, researching, and shaping the discourse on governance reforms in South Asia. Beyond academia, he has served as a consultant to the United Nations, World Bank, and various government agencies, contributing to key policy interventions in decentralisation, electoral governance, and anti-corruption frameworks.

As Director of SIPG, he has spearheaded initiatives to build policy capacity among young researchers and civil servants, while fostering critical dialogue on state restructuring and citizen-oriented governance. His scholarship consistently probes the tensions between informal political settlements, bureaucratic incentives, and democratic accountability — making his insights indispensable to any conversation on reclaiming the republic.

At a time when patronage politics, elite capture, and institutional erosion threaten the foundations of our polity, Dr. Haque’s intellectual leadership and commitment to evidence-based policy reform offer a blueprint for rebuilding public trust and re-imagining a just, democratic future.
