World Environment Day 2026 | Climate Action for a Sustainable Future

Today, on World Environment Day, we are reminded that protecting our planet is not a choice, it is a responsibility we all share.
As climate change continues to impact communities, ecosystems, and livelihoods worldwide, the need for meaningful climate action has never been greater. From conserving natural resources and reducing pollution to promoting sustainable practices and environmental leadership, every action counts.

At Female Leadership On Water, Environment & Research-FLOWER , we believe that empowering women and communities is essential to building a more resilient and sustainable future. Together, we can drive positive change, protect biodiversity, safeguard water resources, and create a healthier planet for future generations.

Let us move beyond awareness and commit to action because the future of our environment depends on the choices we make today.
🌱 Protect Our Planet. Act for Climate. Build a Sustainable Future.

🌊 World Reef Day: A Warning from Our Oceans

Coral reefs cover less than 1% of the ocean floor, yet they support nearly 25% of all marine species and provide food, livelihoods, and coastal protection for hundreds of millions of people worldwide. Despite their ecological and economic importance, reefs are among the most climate-sensitive ecosystems on Earth.
Scientific evidence shows that rising ocean temperatures are driving widespread coral bleaching, disrupting marine food webs, and reducing the resilience of coastal communities. Even under the global target of limiting warming to 1.5°C, a significant proportion of the world's coral reefs are projected to disappear. At 2°C of warming, reef ecosystems could face near-total collapse.
The crisis extends beyond coral reefs. Mangrove forests, seagrass meadows, and other coastal ecosystems are also under increasing pressure from climate change, pollution, and unsustainable development. Their degradation threatens biodiversity, fisheries, carbon storage, and natural protection against storms and sea-level rise.
Protecting reefs is not only a marine conservation issue - it is a climate, food security, and sustainable development imperative. Reducing greenhouse gas emissions, limiting marine pollution, promoting sustainable consumption, and supporting local conservation efforts are essential steps toward safeguarding these ecosystems for future generations.
On World Reef Day, the science is clear: the future of coral reefs depends on the choices we make today.

We, Team FLOWER, are delighted to have participated in and presented our research at the National Seminar 2026 on “Geology for Sustainable Development & Future Energy Security of Bangladesh,” organized by the Geological Survey of Bangladesh on 02-03 May 2026 at the BIAM Foundation, Dhaka.

Representing Female Leadership On Water, Environment & Research-FLOWER , researchers Sumaiya Rahman Mina , M AY Sha , Noshin Siyera Esti , and Jimia Suchi presented two research papers addressing critical issues related to climate change, water stress, and public health challenges in Bangladesh.

đź“„ Paper 1: Spatiotemporal Dynamics of Climate Extremes, Water Scarcity, and Anticipatory Public Health Impacts in the High Barind Tract: A Case Study in Tanore and Nachole Upazila

This study examines how climate variability is intensifying water scarcity and contributing to emerging public health risks in the High Barind region.

📄 Paper 2: Climate-Induced Salinity and Women’s Reproductive Health in Coastal Bangladesh: Assessing Geotourism as a Climate-Resilient Livelihood Strategy

This research explores the impacts of salinity on women’s reproductive health while highlighting geotourism as a potential climate-resilient and sustainable livelihood strategy for coastal communities.

We would also like to express our sincere gratitude to Sustainable Research and Consultancy Ltd. - SRCL for sponsoring and supporting this research initiative. Their encouragement and commitment to research and sustainable development made this work possible.

Team FLOWER is truly grateful for the opportunity to share our research, exchange knowledge with distinguished researchers and professionals, and contribute to meaningful discussions on sustainable development and climate resilience. Participating in such a prestigious platform further reinforces the importance of interdisciplinary research in addressing Bangladesh’s environmental and public health challenges.

Team FLOWER in the Field

Since February, research volunteers M AY Sha and Noshin Siyera Esti from Female Leadership On Water, Environment & Research-FLOWER and one of the RA Mr. Jafor have been working in the field to collect meaningful and viable data from communities.

As part of this funded research project of FLOWER, the team visited communities in the Barind region of northwestern Bangladesh, completing 8 Key Informant Interviews (KIIs), 5 Focus Group Discussions (FGDs), and collecting data from numerous households. The fieldwork also included household-level data collection, water sample collection, previous medical history data, and other important community-based information.

After nearly a month of careful data analysis, we are hopeful that this work will contribute to impactful research papers in reputed journals.

At FLOWER, we are committed to finding the root causes of problems. We work with every possible hypothesis until the truth comes to light.

We are committed to community.
We are committed to humankind.
We are committed to the planet.

Female Leadership on Water Environment and Research (FLOWER) stands for research, responsibility, and meaningful change.
