The rapid rise of AI isn't just changing how we work—it’s changing how we are attacked. Across South Asia, an illicit shadow economy is weaponizing artificial intelligence to execute scalable, automated ransomware campaigns against our critical financial sectors.

In mid-2026, we saw this firsthand as AI-driven bots autonomously mapped exposed edge devices and bypassed legacy defenses in Bangladesh's banking and mobile-payment ecosystems. The cost of this unregulated threat? Disrupted financial services, economic instability, and a severe erosion of public trust in digital banking.

🛡️ How do we fight back?
Reactive incident response is no longer enough. To secure our Critical Information Infrastructure (CII), we urgently need a proactive defense architecture:

✅ AI-Specific Legislation: Amending the Cyber Security Act 2026 to enforce strict algorithmic accountability and continuous attack surface management.
✅ Proactive Threat Hunting: Establishing a centralized, AI-driven lab to analyze and neutralize autonomous cybercriminals before they strike.
✅ Ecosystem Resilience: Shifting liability toward negligent operators to disrupt the underlying business model of ransomware syndicates.

Generative AI didn't invent network exploitation, but it has perfected its scale by exploiting legacy IT debts and regulatory gray areas. It is time for regulators and tech developers to collaborate urgently.

While Bangladesh has foundational laws like the 2018 Ship Recycling Act, our regulatory bodies lack the institutional capacity to rapidly assess and approve cutting-edge green tech. If we don't update our approach,
