đŸ“ĸ Important VAT Update for Project-Based Services in Bangladesh

🔍 Non-Deduction of VAT at Source — Now Limited to First Tier Only
As per the proposed provisions replacing Section 49(5) of the VAT & SD Act, 2012 the facility of inapplicability of VAT and non-deduction of VAT at source is now strictly restricted to the first tier of subcontractors, agents, and service providers engaged in project-based service delivery. Which was not clear in existing law.

👉 What this means:
Only the immediate subcontractor or agent directly appointed under the main service contract can enjoy this VAT exemption facility. Second-tier or further down the chain will not be eligible for this benefit.

✅ Ensure compliance by reviewing your project agreements and VAT deduction procedures accordingly.
