The IEEE Education Week Talk Series 2026 continued its exploration of sustainable innovation with Session 7, held on 18 April 2026, focusing on the evolving role of Electric Vehicles (EVs) as active participants in the global energy ecosystem. Beyond transportation, the session highlighted how EVs can function as intelligent “prosumers,” contributing to smarter and more resilient energy systems.

We were privileged to host a distinguished expert and visionary leader in smart systems research:

Dr. Misra delivered a compelling session on “EVs as Mobile Energy Buffers,” demonstrating how the co-optimization of mobility and energy systems can redefine the future of sustainable cities.

The session explored how Vehicle-to-Grid (V2G) technology enables EVs to operate as mobile energy buffers, supplying excess power back to the grid and supporting building systems such as HVAC during peak demand periods. 🏢💡

2️⃣ Learning-to-Optimize (L2O)
Participants gained insights into how Reinforcement Learning (RL) techniques are surpassing traditional optimization models in solving large-scale routing and energy distribution challenges. 🧠📊

3️⃣ Smart Fleet Management
Discussions addressed real-world operational challenges faced by fleet managers, including dynamic charging coordination and the integration of mixed fleets comprising both electric and conventional vehicles. 🚐⚙️

4️⃣ Grid Stability & AI-Driven Security
The session also emphasized the importance of bidirectional charging safety and showcased how AI can assist in detecting unauthorized loads within SCADA systems to ensure secure and stable energy flow. 🛡️🌐
