IEEE Region 10 Young Professionals UpSkill โ Bangladesh 2026, a flagship professional development programme supported by IEEE Young Professionals Region 10, was successfully held at Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET).
Designed to bridge the gap between academic learning and industry expectations, the day-long programme brought together students, young professionals, academics, industry practitioners, entrepreneurs, and technology leaders for keynote sessions, interactive workshops, panel discussions, networking sessions, competitions, and the Innovation Challenge 2026.
The event was jointly organized by IEEE Young Professionals Bangladesh, the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering (EEE), BUET, and IEEE Bangladesh Section. The programme was technically co-sponsored by the IEEE Society on Social Implications of Technology Bangladesh Chapter and co-organized by IEEE BUET Student Branch, IEEE BUET SB WIE AG, IEEE SPS BUET SBC, IEEE RAS BUETSBC, IEEE EMBS BUETSBC, IEEE IAS BUET SBC, and IEEE PES BUET SBC.

The speakers emphasized leadership, lifelong learning, innovation, and adaptability as essential qualities for engineers navigating a rapidly evolving technological landscape.
Prof. Dr. Sharif Mohammad Mominuzzaman, Head of the Department of EEE, BUET, attended as the Special Guest and expressed his support for the initiative, encouraging participants to pursue continuous professional growth.

Career preparedness was a central theme of the programme.
โข Dr. Md. Mohsinur Rahman Adnan, Assistant Professor, EEE, BUET, discussed strategic career planning and professional development.
A leadership and entrepreneurship panel featuring Raihan Ur Rashid (Cybernetics Hi-Tech Solutions) and Md. Fadel Faruk (Robi Axiata PLC) highlighted startup culture, leadership, adaptability, and innovation-driven impact. The session was moderated by Dr. Ehsanur Rahman, Vice-Chair, IEEE YP Bangladesh.
โบ๏ธ AI, Emerging Technologies & Responsible Engineering
Artificial Intelligence and emerging technologies were key pillars of UpSkill 2026.
โข Dr. Md. Rubaiyat Hossain Mondal, Professor, IICT, BUET, discussed responsible AI and the relationship between technology, society, and engineering accountability.
โข Sheikh Tariful Islam and Khalid Hossain (VLSI Lab, BUET) explored open-source VLSI design ecosystems.
โข Tanvir Hossain, Lecturer, EEE, BUET, addressed AI applications in VLSI design automation.
Engineering ethics and societal responsibility were examined through a panel featuring:

โข Purnata Roy, Sub-Divisional Engineer, DESCO
Another session featuring Md. Mostafizur Rahman (ACP, Cybercrime Investigation Division, CTTC, DMP) and Anamika Bhakta (Robi Axiata PLC) provided insights into cybersecurity challenges, digital responsibility, workplace excellence, and personal branding. The session was moderated by Dr. Aminul Islam, Vice-Chair Technical, IEEE YP Bangladesh.

โข Prof. Dr. Shaikh Anowarul Fattah, Professor, EEE, BUET and Chair, IEEE SSIT Bangladesh Chapter, conducted a workshop titled โAI in Education: Ethical and Professional Perspectives,โ highlighting academic integrity, data privacy, equitable access, and responsible AI adoption.

A dedicated networking session with IEEE Young Professionals Bangladesh ExCom members fostered professional connections and peer engagement.
โบ๏ธ Innovation Challenge 2026
A highlight of the programme was Innovation Challenge 2026, where teams developed and presented innovative, technology-driven solutions to real-world challenges under mentor guidance.
Top-performing teams were recognized based on innovation, teamwork, communication, and overall impact. A quiz competition also added an interactive dimension to the event.
โบ๏ธ Upholding the IEEE Code of Ethics
The programme concluded with remarks from Prof. Dr. Celia Shahnaz, who emphasized adherence to the IEEE Code of Ethics in academic, professional, and personal life.
Prof. Dr. Shaikh Anowarul Fattah, Professor, EEE, BUET and Chair, IEEE SSIT Bangladesh Chapter, concluded the programme with an inspiring address highlighting ethical leadership, responsible innovation, and the broader societal responsibilities of engineers.
The future of engineering depends not only on technological competence and innovation, but equally on integrity, ethical responsibility, and a commitment to using technology for the benefit of society.
IEEE Region 10 Young Professionals UpSkill โ Bangladesh 2026 demonstrated the strength of collaboration between academia, industry, and professional bodies. Through its comprehensive focus on career planning, AI, VLSI, entrepreneurship, ethics, workplace excellence, innovation, and networking, the programme empowered participants to become technically capable, professionally competent, innovative, and ethically responsible technology leaders.
