As part of the World Environment Day 2026 observance, the Bangladesh Youth Coalition (BYC), in collaboration with the Department of Environment (DoE) and Plan International Bangladesh, organized a seminar titled “Girls- and Youth-led Climate Action” to create a platform for dialogue, collaboration, and collective action towards a sustainable future.

The seminar brought together government representatives, development partners, academics, and youth changemakers to highlight the importance of empowering girls and young people as leaders of climate action and locally-driven solutions.

The programme was chaired by Ms. Kabita Bose, Country Director, Plan International Bangladesh. We were honored to have Mr. Mohammad Navid Safiullah, Additional Secretary, Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEFCC), as the Chief Guest, with Dr. Abdus Salam, Pro-Vice Chancellor, University of Dhaka, and Dr. Md. Lutfor Rahman, Director General, Department of Environment, joined as Special Guests and Mr. Marjan Nur, Climate and Environment Adviser, British High Commission, as the Guest of Honor.

The discussion highlighted the power of youth leadership, gender-responsive climate action, and the need for inclusive approaches to address the growing challenges of climate change.

When young people and girls are empowered to lead, communities become stronger and climate solutions become more impactful. Together, we can build a greener, more inclusive, and climate-resilient Bangladesh.
