Rest in peace to a visionary storyteller who inspired generations after generation in oppressed realities. Our Animation Society was also one of those cases where Persepolis became our Revolutionary spirit.
We deeply grief to Marjane Satrapis Demise. This has left us in shock.

Today we’re screening Memories, a Japanese animated anthology film directed by Katsuhiro Otomo (with works by Koji Morimoto and Tensai Okamura).
Originally emerging from the late 90s wave of Japanese animation, Memories brings together science fiction, psychological tension, and powerful visual storytelling...showing how animation can carry deep emotions, political anxiety, and human fragility beyond realism.

As we screen Persepolis, the film feels especially relevant to the world we see today.

Persepolis tells one person’s story of growing up amid political upheaval and social change, showing how ordinary lives, freedom, and identity are shaped by history when people strive for voice and dignity.

Right now in Iran, large movements and protests continue, with citizens rising up against repression and demanding change. This film reminds us that animation can be more than art , it can be a mirror to resistance, courage, and the human desire for expression. In a time when people are striving for justice and freedom, Persepolis becomes more than a story it becomes a conversation about memory, identity, and the power of voices that refuse to be silenced.
