đ¨ Children in Bangladesh are already growing up with a silent poison in their blood. Lead exposure is damaging brain development, learning, and future potential.
Despite phasing out leaded petrol, informal lead acid battery recycling from the booming e-rickshaw sector is now spreading toxic contamination across communities.
There is no safe level of lead exposure and the damage is irreversible.
Sohanur Rahman, Executive Coordinator of YouthNet Global, says, âLead poisoning is silently stealing the future of millions of children in Bangladesh. This is a national emergency that demands urgent coordinated action.â
As Mitali Das, Country Director of Pure Earth Bangladesh warns, âThe process is as primitive as it is lethal,â driven by unsafe and unregulated recycling networks.
There is hope. Lead poisoning is preventable.
YouthNet Global is mobilizing youth across all 64 districts for campaign partnering with the Pure Earth, and promote a just transition that protects both livelihoods and childrenâs health.
We cannot wait. The future of Bangladeshâs children is already at stake.
