Peace is a Choice. Change is the Goal. 🕊️

Justice cannot be found in mob, conflict or violence. While social media and rumors can spark sudden outrage, true impact comes from organized, peaceful action. Every life lost to mob violence is a failure of due process, and it's a cycle we have the power to break.

A peaceful assembly respects the rights of others while firmly demanding our own. It focuses on awareness, boycotts, and marches methods that build a legacy instead of leaving scars.

Let’s commit to a culture where we verify before we act, and where we lead with calm heads and clear hearts.

Parent’s behavior has a deep impact on a child’s mental health. The emotional environment at home plays a crucial role in shaping how a child thinks, feels, and handles stress in the future. When parents are supportive, loving, and understanding, children feel safe and valued, which helps them develop confidence and emotional stability.

On the other hand, harsh, neglectful, or overly critical parenting can negatively affect a child’s mental well-being. It may lead to anxiety, low self-esteem, and difficulty in managing emotions. Children who grow up in a negative environment may also struggle with stress and face challenges in building healthy relationships later in life.

Importantly, positive parenting also teaches children the value of peace, empathy, and respectful communication. As a result, they are more likely to handle conflicts calmly and wisely, avoiding unnecessary aggression and finding healthy solutions. This ability helps them build peaceful relationships and contribute to a more understanding and harmonious society.

সমাজে সহিংসতার বিষয়টি বিশ্লেষণ করলে দেখা যায়, এর শিকড় অনেক সময়ই শৈশবের অভিজ্ঞতার সঙ্গে গভীরভাবে যুক্ত। একজন শিশুর মানসিক বিকাশ, আবেগ নিয়ন্ত্রণের ক্ষমতা এবং মানুষের প্রতি তার আচরণ- এসবের প্রাথমিক ভিত্তি গড়ে ওঠে পারিবারিক পরিবেশে থেকে।

Parenting শুধু সন্তানকে লালন-পালন করা নয়, এটি একটি সামাজিক দায়িত্ব। গবেষণায় দেখা গেছে, যারা ভালোবাসা, সম্মান, এবং নিরাপদ পরিবেশে বেড়ে ওঠে, তারা বড় হয়ে বেশি সহানুভূতিশীল, ধৈর্যশীল এবং শান্তিপূর্ণ আচরণের অধিকারী হয়।

তাই একটি শান্তিপূর্ণ সমাজ গঠনের লক্ষ্যে আমাদের আরও দায়িত্বশীল ও সুশৃঙ্খল হতে হবে, যাতে আমরা আগামী প্রজন্মকে মানবিকতা ও সহমর্মিতার পথে পরিচালিত করতে পারি।

Today, a Peace Adda was held in Dhaka, organized by SERAC-Bangladesh with support from CIVICUS. The session created a meaningful platform for dialogue on critical social issues, particularly child abuse, child development, micro-education, and effective communication strategies for parents.

The discussion highlighted the urgent need for communication materials and community sessions to raise awareness and promote positive parenting practices. Participants emphasized that parents’ behavior has a profound impact on children’s mental health, growth, and overall life outcomes. Therefore, it is essential to take collective action and deliver these messages as community-based micro-education initiatives.

There is strong potential to amplify this approach as a national model. Many countries already have dedicated systems for child wellbeing and protection; by collecting examples, evidence, and mapping existing practices, we can work toward building a similar framework in our country.

To make this vision a reality, collaboration is key. Engaging community leaders, influencers, and local stakeholders will be crucial in spreading awareness and ensuring sustainable impact at the grassroots level.

বর্তমানে আমাদের অধিকাংশ সময় কাটে ইন্টারনেটে। সকালে ঘুম থেকে ওঠা থেকে শুরু করে রাতে ঘুমানোর আগ পর্যন্ত, আমরা বিভিন্নভাবে ডিজিটাল প্ল্যাটফর্মের উপর নির্ভরশীল প্রযুক্তি যেমন আমাদের জীবনকে সহজ করেছে, তেমনি আমাদের অসচেতনতাই সৃষ্টি করছে নতুন নতুন ঝুঁকির।

আপনার ডিজিটাল নিরাপত্তা দুর্বল হলে যে কেউ আইডি হ্যাক করে আপনার পরিচয় ব্যবহার করে ক্ষতিকর পোস্ট, উসকানিমূলক তথ্য বা এআই-নির্মিত ভুয়া সংবাদ ছড়িয়ে দিতে পারে।

অনেক সময় অজান্তেই আইডি থেকে ছড়িয়ে পড়া এসব ভুল তথ্য মুহূর্তের মধ্যে বড় ধরনের দ্বন্দ্ব ও বিশৃঙ্খলা সৃষ্টি করে থাকে।

বেশ কিছু দিন আগের ঘটনা!

আমাদের এলাকার একজন স্থানীয় বাড়িওয়ালা ঈদের পরদিন তার মেয়ে ও বোনের ছেলেকে নিয়ে ঘুরতে বেরিয়েছিলেন। রাস্তার পাশেই তখন খেলা করছিল সাত-আট বছর বয়সি দুটি ছোট ছেলে। খেলাধুলা ও দুষ্টামি করতে করতে হঠাৎ একটি ছেলের সাথে ওই বাড়িওয়ালার ভাগনের গায়ে ধাক্কা লাগে। অনাকাঙ্ক্ষিতভাবে বাড়িওয়ালার ভাগনে সামনে থাকা একটি রিকশার প্যাডেলের উপর আছড়ে পড়ে এবং বেশ গুরুতর আঘাত পায়।

আগেই বলে রাখি- আমি যাঁর কথা বলছি, সেই বাড়িওয়ালা ও তাঁর পরিবার দৃঢ়চেতা এবং বেশ কঠোর স্বভাবের। ঘটনাটি ছিল নিছক একটি দুর্ঘটনা। আহত ভাগনেকে দ্রুত হাসপাতালে পাঠানোর ব্যবস্থা করার পর তিনি ওই দুই ছোট ছেলেকে ধরে নিজের বাড়ির সামনে নিয়ে আসে এবং বাড়িওয়ালা ও তাঁর বাবা মিলে সেই ছোট দুটি ছেলেকে প্রচণ্ড মারধর করতে লাগলেন। এলাকায় তাদের প্রভাব থাকায় কেউই সাহস করে সাহায্যের জন্য এগিয়ে আসছিলো না, এমনকি ছেলে দুটোর মা পর্যন্ত বাধা দিতে পারছিলেন না।

ঘটনাটি আমাদের বাড়ির পাশেই হওয়ায় হইচই শুনে আমি ও আমার বাবা দ্রুত বাহিরে যাই পরিস্থিতি সামাল দিতে। আমরা এই এলাকায় ৩০ বছরের বেশি সময় ধরে আছি, তাই এলাকাবাসী আমার বাবাকে শ্রদ্ধা এবং আমাকে স্নেহ করে। আমরা গিয়ে ওদের থামানোর চেষ্টা করি এবং পরিস্থিতি নিয়ন্ত্রণে আনি। পরে যেই বাড়িতে ছেলে দুটি থাকত, সেই বাড়ির বাড়িওয়ালাও আসেন এবং বেশ কিছুক্ষণ আলোচনার মধ্যদিয়ে বিষয়টির শান্তিপূর্ণ সমাধান হয়। আমি ছেলে দুটোকে সেখান থেকে নিরাপদে তাঁদের বাসায় পৌঁছে দিয়ে আসি।

আমাদের চারপাশে প্রতিনিয়ত এমন অনেক ঘটনা ঘটে, যেগুলো আমরা অনেক সময় দেখেও এড়িয়ে যাই। কিন্তু মনে রাখা দরকার- প্রতিবাদ মানেই সবসময় চিৎকার বা সংঘর্ষ নয়। অনেক সময় নীরব দর্শক হয়ে না থেকে সচেতনভাবে এগিয়ে এসে সহায়তার হাত বাড়িয়ে দেওয়ার মনোভাবই পারে একটি নিরাপদ, মানবিক ও শান্তিময় সমাজ গড়ে তুলতে।

Today’s Peace Adda was held at Ramna, Dhaka and organized by SERAC-Bangladesh with support from CIVICUS.

Participants discussed the rising mental health challenges among youth, including stress, anxiety, depression, and suicidal thoughts, and highlighted how the growing generation gap between parents and children often limits open communication.

The session emphasized the need to strengthen family relationships by creating safe spaces for dialogue, where young people can share openly and parents practice empathy, active listening, and supportive communication. Inclusion, optimism, and breaking social barriers were identified as key approaches to finding positive solutions.

Participants also stressed the importance of mutual understanding beyond differences in opinion, culture, and religion. They encouraged constructive discussion, respectful listening, and taking responsible action while considering the impact of every decision.

Finally, the importance of acknowledging and appreciating others’ positive contributions was emphasized, as recognition motivates people to continue doing good work. The discussion concluded with a shared belief that meaningful social change begins with self-transformation and collective effort.

Today we had a meaningful and engaging discussion at the Peace Adda in Lalbagh, organized by SERAC-Bangladesh with the support of CIVICUS. The session created a space for young people to openly reflect on several recent social issues affecting our communities.

Participants discussed the growing concern around preventable diseases such as measles and the serious lack of public awareness that allows such health risks to spread. A key focus of the conversation was how young people can take leadership in creating awareness within their communities, especially in underserved and slum areas, by sharing accurate information, challenging myths and rumors, and encouraging responsible health practices.

The discussion also emphasized the urgent need to improve basic legal knowledge among both youth and the wider community. Understanding the law was highlighted as essential for protecting our rights, promoting responsible citizenship, and strengthening social harmony.

In addition, participants explored the growing impact of climate change and how it continues to affect our daily lives. Youth were encouraged to become more active in spreading awareness and promoting sustainable practices at the community level.

Today SERAC-Bangladesh, with the support of CIVICUS, organized a “Peace Adda” in Dhaka, bringing together young people to engage in an open and interactive dialogue on peacebuilding, social harmony, and non-violence.

The discussion highlighted that violence and mob behavior often emerge from anger, frustration, and unmet grievances. When left unaddressed, these emotions can spread within communities and escalate quickly, creating wider social unrest.

Participants explored constructive pathways to address these challenges, emphasizing the importance of open and inclusive dialogue, timely and effective law enforcement, and peaceful conflict resolution mechanisms. The session also underscored the value of restraint and thoughtful communication in preventing escalation, as well as the need to share accurate information to counter misinformation.

In addition, the discussion stressed the importance of strengthening education and upbringing to foster empathy, critical thinking, and non-violent values from an early age. Building crisis resilience at both individual and community levels was also identified as essential. Peaceful civic actions, including non-violent protests and boycotts, were recognized as legitimate and effective tools for expressing dissent constructively.

An interactive Peace Adda was held in Rajshahi on 9 April 2026 by SERAC-Bangladesh, collaboration with the Rajshahi Urban Youth Council with the support of CIVICUS. The session brought together young participants to engage in meaningful dialogue on key social and global issues.

The discussion focused on misinformation and cyber safety, emphasizing the importance of verifying information, identifying credible sources, and practicing safe digital habits such as strong passwords and two-factor authentication. It also highlighted violence prevention through safe intervention, encouraging responsible responses and seeking support from proper authorities instead of taking the law into one’s own hands.

Participants further explored the ongoing energy crisis, sharing practical solutions such as energy conservation, increased use of renewable energy, and raising community awareness for sustainable resource use.

Overall, the Peace Adda provided an impactful platform for youth engagement, empowering participants to become informed, responsible, and proactive citizens working toward a safer and more sustainable society.

সিরাক-বাংলাদেশ এর উদ্যোগে এবং CIVICUS-এর সহযোগিতায় ৬ এপ্রিল ২০২৬ বরগুনার তরুণদের অংশগ্রহণে একটি প্রাণবন্ত Peace Adda অনুষ্ঠিত হয়।

উক্ত আলোচনায় অংশগ্রহণকারীরা তথ্য বিভ্রান্তি ও ভুল তথ্য শনাক্তকরণ, সহিংসতা প্রতিরোধ এবং দায়িত্বশীল নাগরিক হিসেবে নিরাপদ হস্তক্ষেপের গুরুত্ব তুলে ধরেন। তারা তথ্য শেয়ার করার পূর্বে যাচাই নিশ্চিত করা, সন্দেহজনক ছবি ও লিংক পরিহার করা, সংলাপ ও সচেতনতামূলক সভার মাধ্যমে কমিউনিটিতে সচেতনতা বৃদ্ধি করা এবং আইন, অধিকার ও নাগরিক দায়িত্ব সম্পর্কে জনসচেতনতা জোরদারের ওপর গুরুত্ব আরোপ করেন।

তাদের মতে- ধর্ম, সংস্কৃতি ও মতাদর্শগত পার্থক্যের প্রতি পারস্পরিক সম্মান প্রদর্শন, গুজব ও বিদ্বেষ পরিহার এবং সামাজিক সম্প্রীতি বজায় রাখা একটি শান্তিপূর্ণ সমাজ গঠনের পূর্বশর্ত। পাশাপাশি সড়ক নিরাপত্তা, পরিচ্ছন্নতা বজায় রাখা, প্লাস্টিকের ব্যবহার হ্রাস, পরিবেশ সংরক্ষণ এবং বৃক্ষরোপণের মতো উদ্যোগে সবাইকে যুক্ত হওয়ার আহ্বান জানায়।
