The National Workshop on higher education was inaugurated by the Hon’ble Prime Minister.

On Tuesday, 12 May 2026, the daylong national workshop titled “Transforming Higher Education in Bangladesh: Roadmap to Sustainable Excellence” was held at the Nabab Nawab Ali Chowdhury Hall, Senate Building, University of Dhaka.

The Hon’ble Prime Minister of the Government of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh, Mr. Tarique Rahman, formally inaugurated the program at 10:00 AM. The event brought together distinguished educationists, members of the Cabinet, Members of Parliament, authorities of the University Grants Commission of Bangladesh, leaders of the Association of Private Universities of Bangladesh (APUB), Vice-Chancellors of public and private universities, government officials, teachers, researchers, representatives from industry, and other development stakeholders.

The inaugural session was also addressed by the Hon’ble Minister of Education, Dr. A.N.M. Ehsanul Haque Milon, and the Education Adviser to the Prime Minister, Mr. Mahdi Amin. The session was chaired by Professor Dr. Mamun Ahmed, Chairman of the University Grants Commission of Bangladesh.

Following the inaugural ceremony, five technical sessions were held focusing on key themes including: graduate employability, soft skills development and demand-driven education; industry-academia collaboration and global competitiveness; digital transformation, digital literacy and integration of artificial intelligence; faculty capacity development, research excellence and internationalization; and governance, quality assurance, and institutional reform. Recommendations were formulated following extensive discussions in these sessions.

Leaders of the Association of Private Universities of Bangladesh actively participated in three of the technical sessions and presented their opinions and recommendations.

APUB policy dialogue titled “Role of Private Universities: Students’ Future, Policy Reform and the Roadmap to National Development”, organized by the Association of Private Universities of Bangladesh (APUB), was successfully held, bringing together key policymakers, education leaders, industry representatives, and distinguished stakeholders to discuss the future of higher education in Bangladesh.

The program focused on critical issues including student employability, skill development, innovation, policy reform, and the role of higher education in driving national economic growth and global competitiveness.

The event was graced by the presence of the Hon’ble Minister of Education, the Hon’ble Education Adviser to the Hon’ble Prime Minister, the Hon’ble Chairman of the University Grants Commission (UGC) of Bangladesh, the Secretary of the Secondary and Higher Education Division, Members of Parliament (MPs), members of the APUB Executive Committee, members of the Boards of Trustees of private universities, Vice Chancellors, eminent academicians, industry leaders, and media personalities.

• Research, Innovation & Global Ranking
• Tax-Free Education Policy
• UGC Reform & Faster Approval Systems
• Industry–Academia Collaboration
• Student Innovation Incentives
• Internationally Recognized Legal Framework for Establishing Universities
• Cross-Border Higher Education (CBHE)
• Branch Campus Policy

The speakers unanimously emphasized that Bangladesh must place the highest priority on student skills, innovation, research, and employment opportunities in order to build a world-class higher education ecosystem.

The seminar strongly reaffirmed the belief that:

Protecting the future of students means protecting the future of the nation.

With visionary policies, internationally aligned academic standards, and strong collaboration among academia, industry, and government, Bangladesh has the potential to emerge as a global hub for skilled human resources, research, innovation, and quality higher education.

বাজেট ২০২৬-২৭:
আন্তর্জাতিক মানদণ্ড অনুযায়ী, ইউনেস্কো অন্তত মোট বাজেটের ২০ শতাংশ বা জিডিপির প্রায় ৪-৬ শতাংশ শিক্ষা খাতে বিনিয়োগের সুপারিশ করে থাকে। সে তুলনায় বাংলাদেশের বর্তমান বরাদ্দ উল্লেখযোগ্যভাবে কম। এ প্রেক্ষাপটে শিক্ষা খাতে বাজেট বৃদ্ধি এবং বেসরকারি উচ্চশিক্ষা প্রতিষ্ঠানের শিক্ষা সামগ্রী, যন্ত্রপাতি, অবকাঠামো, আমানত ইত্যাদির ওপর থেকে সব ধরনের ট্যাক্স, ভ্যাট প্রত্যাহারের পাশাপাশি গবেষণা অনুদান, শিক্ষা ঋণ, নীতিগত সহায়তা প্রদান অত্যন্ত গুরুত্বপূর্ণ।

APUB Leadership Meets UK Trade Envoy Baroness Winterton
---------------------------

The Chairman of the Association of Private Universities of Bangladesh (APUB), Dr. Md. Sabur Khan, and the Secretary General, Mr. Ishtiaque Abedin—distinguished promoters of higher education in Bangladesh as well as renowned business leaders and successful entrepreneurs—held a fruitful meeting with Mrs. Rosie Winterton, UK Trade Envoy to Bangladesh, representing the UK Department for Business and Trade, who is a British Labour Party politician and a Member of the House of Lords since 2024.

The meeting focused on fostering collaboration in the areas of international trade and the development of “ideal education” systems that contribute meaningfully to the economic and social advancement of both Bangladesh and the United Kingdom.
