A quantum computer made out of helium? A new study published in Physical Review X shows how it might someday be possible.

Using a quantum dot with microscopic reservoirs full of liquid helium and a trap to control the flow of single electrons, researchers show how they can detect and measure the movement of individual electrons on the surface of liquid helium. Their device also works at temperatures above one Kelvin — conditions that are suitable for large-scale quantum processors.

A typical book can be printed with 10to the power 6 zeros (around 400 pages with 50 lines per page and 50 zeros per line). Therefore, it requires 10 to the power 94 such books to print all the zeros of a googolplex (that is, printing a googol zeros). If each book had a mass of 100 grams, all of them would have a total mass of 10 to the power 93 kilograms. In comparison, Earth's mass is 5.97 × 10 to the power 24 kilograms, the mass of the Milky Way galaxy is estimated at 1.8 × 10 to the power 42 kilograms], and the total mass of all the stars in the observable universe is estimated at 2 × 10 to the power 52 kg.

To put this in perspective, the mass of all such books required to write out a googolplex would be vastly greater than the mass of the observable universe by a factor of roughly 5 × 10 to the power 40.

But tiny Bangladesh (the size of New York) has a lager population.

In 2022, Bangladesh was home to 169 million people. Russia was home to just 144 million.

Bangladesh is the eighth most populated country in the world, and it has one of the highest population densities in the world. With a land area of 148,460 square kilometers (57,320 sq mi), Bangladesh has a population density of about 1,260 people per square kilometer, which is almost three times denser than its neighbor India.
