In September 2015, heads of states and governments met at the UN headquarter in New York and agreed on a new generation of 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) with 169 targets to succeed the MDGs and to guide global development over the next 15 years till 2030. The 2030 Agenda comes at a time when Bangladesh has already kicked off its journey towards an upper middle income country by 2030 and
a developed country by 2041. Bangladesh has incorporated priorities of SDGs in all her development policies. While formulating the national development plan (Seventh Five Year Plan (2016-2020), the proposed SDGs were taken well into consideration in order to ensure that SDGs would be complemented throughout the national plan. Government has already drafted a study on SDGs Needs Assessment and Financing Strategy for the country to estimate the resources needed for achieving SDGs in Bangladesh by 2030. It is revealed that around US$ 1.5 trillion additional resources would be required for Bangladesh for full implementation of SDGs from FY 2017 to FY 2030(GED, Nov, 2016). Even though, national governments will continue to have the primary responsibility for financing the SDGs through their own development plans and budget, but it will not be enough, given the wider breadth and width of the scope of SDGs. To fully realize the SDG goals, all parties-government, civil society, media and the private sector-must have a shared responsibility. A large number of targets of SDGs are related to poverty reduction, growth, employment, and the delivery of key services such as education, health and sanitation, which cannot be achieved without the active participation of the private sector. In order to achieve these goals through greater involvement of the private sector, therefore there has to be a framework of how these two actors can work in tandem. In this regard PKSF has established a platform called “People’s Voice: Strengthening the Implementation of SDGs in Bangladesh” for interacting and sharing information with various stakeholder of the country. For the PKSF to pursue its activities, within the framework of the Platform, in a focused and coordinated manner and organize dissemination and idea-generating workshops/ seminars/conferences and other related activities, as appropriate, by the PKSF on its own and initiate and coordinate such activities to be implemented by the Platform.
