The University of Dhaka Geophysical Society (UDGS), in collaboration with AAPG, SPE, EAGE, AWG, ISPRS SC, and IAEG Student Chapters, has successfully organized a highly engaging webinar titled “Machine Learning and Explainable-AI Frameworks for Data-Driven Model Development and Feature Selection: Insights into Reservoir Characterization and Geomechanics.”
The session featured Dr. Mohammad Islam Miah, Postdoctoral Research Fellow in Rock Mechanics at the University of Saskatchewan, Canada. Dr. Miah holds a Ph.D. in Oil and Gas Engineering from Memorial University of Newfoundland, an M.Eng. in Petroleum Engineering from BUET, and a B.Sc. in Petroleum and Mining Engineering from SUST.
Held on 25 October 2025 via Zoom, the webinar provided valuable insights into the integration of machine learning and explainable AI frameworks in reservoir characterization and geomechanical studies. Participants gained a deeper understanding of how advanced data-driven approaches are shaping the future of geoscience and petroleum engineering.
A short quiz session was also organized at the end of the webinar, allowing participants to engage interactively and reinforce their understanding of the key concepts discussed.
UDGS extends sincere appreciation to Dr. Miah for his informative and inspiring presentation, and to all participants for contributing to the success of this event.
