🌍 SEG Outreach Programme Successfully Completed! 🎉
We are delighted to share the successful completion of our outreach programme “Exploring the Subsurface: ERT and VES Surveys”, held at the premises of Thakurgaon Govt. Boys’ High School in collaboration with Thakurgaon Govt. Boys’ & Girls’ High School, under the generous Outreach Grant provided by the Society of Exploration Geophysicists (SEG) on Thursday, April 2nd, 2026.
The programme aimed to introduce school students to the exciting world of geophysics and subsurface exploration, inspiring young minds through lectures, live demonstrations, hands-on activities, and interactive learning.
🔹 Key Lecture & Scientific Discussion
We were honored to have Dr. Md. Anwar Hossain Bhuiyan (Professor, Department of Geology, University of Dhaka) as our keynote speaker. He delivered an engaging lecture on the principles and real-world applications of ERT and VES, highlighting their importance in groundwater exploration, environmental studies, and engineering investigations. The session sparked curiosity and enthusiastic participation from the students.
🔹 Hands-on Field Instructor (ERT & VES Survey)
The practical field segment was conducted by Md. Sajjadul Islam Fahim (Lecturer, Department of Geology, University of Dhaka), who served as the instructor for the hands-on Electrical Resistivity Tomography (ERT) and Vertical Electrical Sounding (VES) survey. He guided students through electrode setup, field data acquisition, and real-time measurements, allowing them to experience how geophysical surveys are carried out in real field conditions.
🔹 Software Demonstration
The programme also featured a technical software demonstration by Mohammad Tawhidur Rahman Tushar (Lecturer, Department of Geology, University of Dhaka), who introduced students to modern tools used for processing and interpreting geophysical data. This session provided valuable insight into how technology supports geoscientific research and decision-making.
🔹 Interactive Quiz Competition
To make the learning experience more engaging and enjoyable, an interactive quiz competition was arranged where students actively participated and showcased their newly gained knowledge.
🏆 Prize Giving Ceremony
The programme concluded with a prize-giving ceremony, where awards were presented to the winners of the quiz competition. Special appreciation was also given to the dedicated volunteers from Thakurgaon Govt. Boys’ High School and Thakurgaon Govt. Girls’ High School for their enthusiastic support and contribution to the success of the event.
