Amidst rising energy costs and shortages, small entrepreneurs are on the front line of the pressure. We're helping build their resilience through the SMART project, in partnership with PKSF and the World Bank.
The project helps micro-entrepreneurs in the 'restaurant, street food, and bakery' sector adopt cleaner, resource-efficient practices through financing, grants, and hands-on training.
On 31st August 2026, Monday, a World Bank-PKSF delegation visited the project site in Badda and saw firsthand how small food businesses are cutting down costs and their environmental footprint through solar energy, energy-efficient cooking and lighting, improved ventilation, water-saving arrangements, safer waste handling, and better hygiene practices. They also heard directly from entrepreneurs about how these changes are reshaping their daily business.
A total of 600 street food vendors and restaurants in and around Dhaka are being provided financial and technical services through the SMART project.
